DIY Chocolate Robots
I’m such a sucker for anything miniature, especially at the grocery store. So when I discovered a section in the candy aisle that contained all of my “mini” favorites, I couldn’t stop myself: Mini Reese’s, mini Kit Kats, mini M&M’s, mini Rolos, mini Junior Mints. (They’re already junior… how can they get even smaller???)
After I got them home, I started snacking. And stacking. With just a few tasty treats, I was able to create a pretty sweet little robot. All you have to do is add some chocolate candy melt to hold the assorted pieces together. Try it for yourself and see what kind of robot you can construct. By the way, any child that loves to build with Legos will enjoy this creative stacking (and snacking) project too.
What You Need
- Chocolate candy melts
- Mini Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups
- Plain M&M Candies (brown)
- Snickers Peanut Butter Squares
- Mini M&M candies (brown)
- Mini Kit Kat Bites
- Mini Hershey’s Kisses
Instructions
Start by melting a few ounces of chocolate candy melts (or a square of chocolate almond bark) in a microwave-safe dish. Heat for 30 second intervals, stirring until smooth.
Step 2
Make the robot’s legs first. Using a toothpick, put a dab of candy melt on the mini Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups. Add a brown M&M candy. Allow it to cool and harden. Continue adding dabs of candy melt and M&M candies until you have a stack of three. Allow these to cool and harden completely.
Step 3
Next, make the robot’s head with a mini Kit Kat. Put tiny dabs of candy melt on the backs of four mini M&M candies. Attach two for the eyes and two for the side “bolts.” Attach a mini Hershey’s Kiss on the top of the head for an antenna.
Step 4
Make the robot’s body “instruments” by attaching two mini M&M candies and a half-moon shaped wafer (cut from a solid chocolate candy melt) to the front of a Snickers Peanut Butter Square.
Step 5
To make the arms, put small dabs of candy melt in between 5 M&M candies, lying on their sides. If possible, make them arch slightly. Allow time for each segment to cool and harden a little bit before attaching another M&M.
Step 6
When all the parts are dry and firm, attach them to the body (lying on a flat surface) with more small dabs of candy melt. Allow everything to cool and harden completely before standing them upright.
Step 7
Attach fun accessories—candy, flags, candles—to the robot’s arms with more candy melt.
