DIY Mini Christmas Trees

Add spirit to your home this season with a festive forest of Mini Christmas Tree Dolls. Colored fabrics and fun faces give each tree its own unique personality (and you can even make a tree for each member of your family!). Kids will have a blast both making these little guys, and using them as characters in their next holiday puppet show.

What You Need

  • Mini Christmas Tree template (download here)
  • Fabric scraps
  • Needle and thread
  • Toothpicks
  • Wine corks
  • Pompoms
  • Beads
  • Washable marker
  • Permanent marker
  • Cutting knife
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Stuffing

How-To

Step 1
First you’ll need to download and print the template. Then, mark the pattern with a washable marker and cut out the different sized cones from your fabric scraps.

Step 2
Sew a running stitch line at the bottom of each piece, following the pattern. Then fold each piece in a half and stitch a straight line up the side. Turn the cones inside out

Step 3
To make the tree trunks, take your wine corks and cut them in half, lengthwise. Stick one toothpick into the center of each half, so that the cork is now positioned horizontally on the toothpick.

Step 4
Fill the fabric cones with stuffing and stick the toothpick-end of the tree trunks inside the stuffed cones. Add glue if necessary. Close the bottom of the trees by pulling the thread of the running stitch and tying a knot to fix the trunks in place. Hide any excess fabric by pushing it upwards.

Step 5
Now it’s time to decorate! Stitch on two beads for the eyes, add a tiny pompom for the nose, and throw a big pompom on top. Then embroider some cute embellishment lines: zigzags, running or straight stitches could all be nice.

Step 6
Using a marker, draw whatever expression you’d like your tree to have (happy, silly, shy, surprised, etc.) and enjoy the company of your new friendly forest!

Happy crafting!
