Skinny la Minx’s Stig

Do you have a tea towel problem? I really, really do – i have a pile of loads of tea towels (more than fifty i’m sure) and they’re used for everything and anything in the kitchen. I’ve also framed tea towels in our kitchen. Just the other day i bust The Captain using one of my Skinny la Minx tea towels outside at the braai – he didn’t understand why i barked at him – how can you not know that you get tea towels for nice and tea towels for not so nice – it’s basic knowledge, right?

Heather Moore’s latest design for her brand Skinny la Minx is Stig – and it’s a masterpiece, exactly where my brain is at – admiring large leafed plants is a current past time of mine. It’s definitely a tea towel for nice.

‘Where does the name Stig come from’ you may ask? Well, it has nothing to do with Top Gear and everything to do with famous Mid Century designer Stig Lindberg. Heather says “ one of my favourite designs of all time is a black-and-white wrapping paper design that Stig Lindberg made for Gustavsberg in 1955. Inspired by this, and in homage to Stig Lindberg, I made a cut paper design about the plants in my studio roof garden.

I turned the paper cut into a fabric design, and have screenprinted it in three colourways on soft cotton hopsack, and named it “Stig”, after you-know-who”.
