HaBO: Historical With Scientist Heroine

by SB Sarah

This request comes from Genny, who is looking for a historical she read:

I read this book recently, but can't remember if it was a paper copy or on my Kindle. If it was on my Kindle it was part of the Kindle Owners Lending Library. If it was a paper copy it was loaned, gifted (or potentially eaten by my dog.) I CANNOT get it out of my head though!

Plot points: A female scientist with a young son is caught in an abusive relationship. She and her cohort of Victorian-age academics decide that to get her abuser (its a cousin or husband's brother or something like that) off her back she must remarry, but it would be best to marry a man who will just leave her alone - enter the rake.

Lord so-and-so is a rogue of the highest order - the book opens with him at a debauched house party somewhere out in the country. The only person in the world he cares about it is uncle, who is confined to a wheelchair. His uncle gives him an ultimatum - he must marry or he is cut off.

He, of course, in the grandest tradition of reformed rakes, turns out to be a wonderful boyfriend and surrogate father to the young boy (there is a rather cute scene involving cricket and a green suede coat.) She has passion reignited, and of course, her problems are solved.

Any idea on what this title of this book is? Thanks in advance!

Do you recognize this historical? Help a bitch out!
