Where I quote Anne Shirley like everyone else

Fall has always felt like home to me, when the weather grows cooler & the trees lose their leaves. It feels like a promise of change, not just in boots and lattes and chili in the crockpot, but possibilities in the final rush of the year. As Anne Shirley says, “I am so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” I put my boots on yesterday because it was October 1 even though it climbed over 80 degrees. I’ve held out as long as I can & I’m impatient to get this sweater-weather going. North Carolina, consider this my personal rebellion.

Last night I cooked dinner for my little family plus my parents, aunt, my sister & her new beau that we finally got to meet. I was a bit nervous the chicken would burn on the grill & that I picked the wrong white wine, but that paled in comparison to the 21 year old boy meeting my father for the first time. The evening went beautifully as we sat knees-bumping around my dining room table for two laughter-filled hours. I’m starting to realize that buying a table that only seats six might have been short-sighted, but I’m also starting to realize that I love the nights when my favorite people are knocking elbows as we pass bread & green beans over mismatched chairs.

In October I would love to:

  • Take an overnight camping trip
  • Bake a loaf of bread on a Sunday afternoon
  • Donate a bag of clothes
  • Go for at least one walk per week as a family
  • Read two books (Dark Places by Gillian Flynn & The Spectacular Now by Tim Tharp)

Currently I am…

reading the second book of the Mortal Instruments (horrible confession, yes?).
waiting to watch the fourth season of Downton when it hits PBS in January.
feeling gratitude.
eating Chipotle & yes, I know guac is extra.
dreaming of making Christmas presents for my best friends this year.
quoting my former youth pastor who said, “What is in the well comes up in the bucket.”
working on a 60-slide brand engagement plan.
listening to December by Sara Bareilles.
wearing these Merona moccasins which are basically like wearing slippers in public.

What are your hopes & goals for this month?
