Stockholm Furniture Fair 2014 // Top 10.

The world’s largest meeting place for Scandinavian design - Stockholm Furniture Fair 2014 took place between 3rd and 9th February, marking the end of the third major design event on the world design calendar. You may recall our recent coverage of imm cologne and Masion&Objet not that long ago. So without further ado, below is a selection of Top 10 products that caught our eye this year.

Stockholm Apartment With Brass Cube by Claesson Koivisto Rune // Swedish rachitects and designers Claesson Koivisto Rune have shown several new projects during Stockholm Design Week 2014 including this city apartment in Stockholm. Scandinavian design at it’s best.

Farg & Blanche Wood Tailoring // One of the more innovative launches at the 2014 Stockholm Furniture Fair, during Stockholm Design Week 2014 is a fascinating furniture range using plywood panels and leather padding sewn together on an industrial sewing machine by Farg & Blanche. The collection of seating and storing pieces include; the Layer armchair, Bespoke chair, and Pocket cupboard and Layer cabinet are the eclectic results of their Wood Tailoring series. Six different parts are joined together to form a tailored back — similar to a well-designed suit jacket — of the ‘bespoke chair’, which accommodates the body comfortably. The seat can be supported from a variety of metal leg options.

Five Solid Wood by Claesson Koivisto Rune // Stockholm-based designer Claesson Koivisto Rune have created a new solid maple wood furniture series for start-up japanese brand matsuso T. Entitled ‘five’, the collection of seating and tables reference typical japanese and eastern traditions and philosophies revolving around the number 5. “We live in a world of five elements that we experience through our five senses. Five is gently odd. Five is not too many. Five is beautiful”.

Flesh Chair by Nanna Kiil // Student designer Nanna Kiil is showing a chair that looks like it’s dressed in a fat suit at the Greenhouse showcase of young talent as part of the Stockholm Furniture Fair. The furniture is made from the concept “less is a bore” by using foam as the main upholstery. The intention is to explore the balance between the repulsive and the accommodating through voluminous curves. The shaping reflects undesirable human overweight as an aesthetics impetus, combined with a pleasant appearance in bright and soft materials that leads the user to be embraced by comfortable volumes.

Fog Light by Front Design for Zero // Swedish studio Front presents spherical glass lamps that appear to have steamed up at the Stockholm Furniture Fair, consists of a glass ball that is frosted on the bottom and gradates to transparent at the top. The glass on the inside of Fog lamps are sand blasted on the inside, graduated smoothly from completely covering the bottom to disappearing up near the metal socket, where the light source is well hidden.

SINE Collection Coatstand // Young designers Erik Olovsson and Kyuhyung Cho have designed a series of clothing racks that resemble the regular shape of a wave. This simple system, based on the form of the wave, creates evenly spaced hanging points to give your clothes a more organised presentation. SINE rack is made from Marble and Powder Coated Aluminium and the matching hangers in Steel.

Spegelbord Table by Scherlin // Scherlin have designed an awesome range of tables, but how fab is the Spegelbord round table? It’s made out of a gorgeous brass plate surface with a powder coated steal frame. In Love.

Guess storage by Jipson Design for Karl Andersson // Guess storage by Karl Anderson has been created with the ambition of surprising all who see it, letting them experience and envisage something more than a mere cupboard or cabinet. Some may experience the designs on the doors as nothing more than randomly placed holes; others will recognise the motif at once.

LITTLE WHITE LIES (2014) Nick Ross // Scottish designer Nick Ross, whose cool works dig deep into the history, is part of Örnsbergsauktionen. Greatly inspired by past times and storytelling, his designs are simple, but strong. White Lies, a console table in Carrara marble with transparent paint which lets the materials qualities still come through in the piece. “After working on the table I started to find new beauty in the painting of marble as the marble itself makes for an amazing canvas with its delicate patterns and tonal differences.”

GRAIN (2012) Johanna Friedman // This beautiful textile pieces was also part of Örnsbergsauktionen collective – an artist operated auction house for studio produced design and craft, located in Örnsberg, Stockholm. Johanna Friedman is a Swedish artist working with photographic imagery and textile techniques.

NAZCA:COCOS (2014) Hilda Hellström // Also part of Örnsbergsauktionen was Hilda Hellstrom’s galactic marble table NAZCA/COCOS, which sold for $534. Bargain.
