So Hot Right Now // Playing Dress Ups In Architecture Shoots.
Empty, people-less spaces in architectural photography is out. Well, not really. But what’s in, is creative project shoots – and specifically dress ups. More and more, designers are taking an inventive approach to the capturing of their work on camera, incorporating props, people, and a strong sense of narrative. The result is some very dynamic – and entertaining – photography of houses and spaces, which could actually pass as works of art on their own. Here are some of our favourite examples.
Napoléon Apartment Renovation in Paris by FREAKS freearchitects // Located on the Rue de Rivoli, the apartment is an old address of Napoléon I, inspiring – of course – the emperor themed dress-ups. See our full feature on this project.

Jane Fonda Kit House in Brussels, Belgium by Elli Architects // Inspired by fitness guru and sustainability, the house’s energy runs partly on its occupants own muscles – as we can see. See our previous video about this installation.

Into the Woods house in Eltham, Australia by Breathe Architecture // It has to be said that Breathe Architecture have fully embraced the dress-up concept in their shoots and made it their b*tch! Pretty much all of their latest projects are shown this way, and we love it. For this shoot, a wood-cutter plays up the house inspired by fallen trees and the bare essentials. Stonewood House in Melbourne, Australia by Breathe Architecture // Drawing inspiration from Michelangelo’s Quattro Prigioni sculptures (depicting four captives trying desperately to break out of stone), the architects were driven by the idea of chiseling away a block of stone to create a refined form (here it was Sugar Gum timber). Baladrar House in Benissa, Alicante, Spain by Langarita Navarro Architects // Photography by Louis Diaz Diaz, who says, “Every time I take pictures of houses I think about all of the things that could happen inside.” This time he chose there to be a strange string of murders (flipping the pretty tourist destination feel on its head).
