Le petit déjeuner: Four Seasons Marunouchi, Tokyo

Towards the end of my stay in Tokyo, we spent a few days staying at the Four Seasons Marunouchi. Each morning, the most exciting thing was knowing that both our taste buds and eyes would be equally stimulated with both the view from the restaurant and whatever came from the kitchen. Although we opted for Western-style dishes (I need my pancakes!), the typical Japanese way of presenting food as art was employed. A visual feast!

Even though my pancakes were by far the prettiest breakfast during our stay, my salmon bagel tasted like someone had baked heaven, put it on a plate, added capers and sent it to the table. The waffles were delicious with just a hint of sugar and as you can see, fruit was the order of (every) day. But alas, I forgot to ask for the recipes so now I sit here patiently plotting my return to the city which captivated my heart so much. Who would have thought that one of my lasting memories of seven weeks in Japan would be a salmon and cream cheese bagel…
