Instagram: my September

Well, it’s been a rather interesting month in my little world as documented on Instagram. From Michelin-starred lunches in the West End to the best coffee I’ve ever had in Brixton. I ate at Duck & Waffle, London’s highest restaurant, and strolled the rooms at the National Gallery wondering why nobody really produces such fine art any more.

Towards the end of this month, I spent a weekend in hospital. Through the pain and fear that I was having a stroke, I kept thinking about how lucky I was that my country has a functioning A&E department! Sometimes, we take what we have for granted but I live in a country where medical care, whilst not free (we pay for it via tax), is accessible to all irrespective of their financial situation. I may have been in pain but I didn’t lose sight of the realities and blessings in my life. Thank you so much to everybody who emailed, texted, messaged me – I am touched by the kindness of my fellow humans, some of whom I’ve never even met. On the downside, not being able to do yoga for the last 11 days makes me feel clinically obese, though that may have something to do with the desserts I’ve been consuming… Feeling much better now so back to downward dog at any moment.

All in all, it has been an eventful month. I have a new Japanese language partner – a lovely chap interested in art, religion, politics, history and so on, and incredibly patient with my poor language skills. Kanji will not defeat me! It’s been an amazing month for my female friendships; I have a very small social circle and though each friend is very individual, each possesses the same drive, intelligence and kindness. It’s simply impossible to feel anything but focused and inspired when you have such amazing women in my life.

Well, university restarted yesterday with French – I learnt that a 3000-word essay worth 30% of my mark needs to be produced. Quelle horreur ! I have some topic ideas so we will see. I will work hard and hopefully it will pay off. Today will be all about the religious influence on Japanese art. I simply cannot wait! And now, it’s time to re-establish my relationship with the library card…
