Pivo a Medovník: A Prague bar and café guide I

There is only one post about my time in Prague in 2013. As most of you know I did my Erasmus student exchange year in Prague and I lost my heart there. Prague is my home, Prague makes me happy, Prague is following with every step I am taking since I am back in Berlin. Last weekend I finally got the chance to go back for the first time after I had to say goodbye to my old apartment and all my lovely international friends. I was completely overwhelmed by happiness as soon as I saw the Žižkov TV tower from the bus. But before I am annoying you with my emo side I want to use the chance to finally create a little Prague guide for you guys. I am still getting e-mails from friends or blog readers who want recommendations for the most romantic city in the world, especially when it comes to which cafés and bars are worth visiting. So I will tell you about my favourite places in Prague and where I spent 90% of my time over the 5 months. Who is sensitive when it comes to cigarettes and smokey bars should be aware that after a night out you smell and feel like an ashtray. But the beer is cheap, so you won´t notice the burning eyes after the 4th glass of good old Pilsener or Staropramen anymore. So let´s get started:

U-Sudu: You can find this bar at Vodičkova 677/10 and it hides and endless labyrinth under the streets. It´s dark and quite confusing in the beginning but you will realise soon that it isn´t that big as it first seems. Also there are a few table football tables where me and my friends loved to start the night with a little bit of friendly competition.
Vzorkovna: I just found out about the name when I came back to Prague. Most of the nights I wanted to find out the name but it isn´t really readable at the door and it was known as the candle bar anyway. We used to call it pigs bar because last year they really had little black pigs in there which luckily got removed after a while. Still this bar is very colourful, quirky and has a nice weird mix of interior. You should definitely stop by at Bartolomějská 13 and squeeze into the narrow rooms of this place.

Blues Sklep: This blues bar at Liliová 247/10 was situated just 2 steps from our Finish friend´s house. We haven´t been there that often but it is definitely worth it to go there and have a beer away from all the crazy touristy streets. In the back there is a room where they have live music. So who gets sick of Pragues amazing club music in the night time can get some peace for their ears there.
One of my favourite places is the bar underneath the student building FAMU at Smetanovo Nabrezi 6. You won´t find beer this cheap anywhere else in the centre of Prague. It is nothing special regarding the fact that all Prague bars are woody, smoky, dark and uncomplicated (these are exactly the reasons, why I am so in love with Prague´s bar culture). The thing is that I really enjoy going down there, forgetting the craziness outside and having a calm decent pint. Furthermore they have good food there. So don´t be shy and enter the building and go down there!

Atmosphere: On the same street at Smetanovo nábřeží 327/14 you can also find a place with decent food. It is really fun going in there because the place is pretty colourful and friendly. So when you are taking a picture of the Pražský hrad across the river you maybe want to turn around and grab a bite over there.
Hany Bany: Don´t expect to get a free chair after the students are leaving university or maybe just woken up. Hany Bany is another fun bar where you are having your beer in an old ambience. The walls are covered with weird American stuff but the beer is Czech! It is located next to `The PUB´ on Veleslavínova 58/5.
