My Latest Acquisition

I was a bit busy and a bit lazy yesterday. And, a bit tired. I've been staying up way too late watching the Olympics (boo hoo hoo! They're oooooover!) and getting up earlier than usual and my body seems to be unhappy with me and insisting I need more sleep than that. Go figure.

So, I didn't post and stayed up way too late anyway. Doh!

Tonight. I'll go to bed early tonight...

I hope Ellie and I can get over to visit GG and Bill tomorrow. It's been so wonderful to have them right here with us! We stopped in Friday as well as last Tuesday. Ellie told me she wanted to visit with GG and Great Grandpa. Then, she told me she wanted to do school. I told her she could do either school or visit with GG and Great Grandpa and which did she want to do? Ever resourceful, my little darling informed me she wanted to do school at GG's. So, we loaded up some toys for Buddy Boy, and her school and headed over after our walk Friday morning.

I love that my girls can visit with their great grandparents practically anytime we want. I love the ease of getting there (as opposed to a five hour drive in the car). I love seeing scenes like the one above. It makes my heart sing. :o)

We might not get over there this week, though, as Typhoid Mary here is a snotty, coughing machine. Oy.

She awoke me yesterday to inform me she had a fever.

She did. It was 101. Great.

The fever was gone by 10:00, and she's still running around like her usual dervish self, so I'm not particularly worried. But, I can't have her spreading her plague through a retirement community, nor to GG and Bill. So, we'll keep our germs here and when she's no longer hacking up her lungs every five minutes we'll get back over there.

Saturday morning, I met Tami and we had a brisk, four mile walk and I came home to rally the troops so we could get over to the ReStore. Because we had to get a new aquarium and I had to move my Expedit upstairs to hold it, I needed something for the foyer and thought I might find something useful there.

I didn't find anything for the foyer, and, in fact, I moved the dry sink GF made to the spot. It's growing on, but I'm not convinced it's perfect there...

I did find this fun little table, though. I'd been looking for a work surface for my sewing machine and the ReStore had two sewing machine tables. The top folds out and I can set my machine on it. Excellent. Sure, it needs a little TLC, but it's a pretty little thing.

And, best of all, it came with this:
How fun is this? :o)

We weren't sure it would work, but figured, what the heck? I needed the table and the machine was an added bonus. We got it home, plugged it in, and IT WORKS! :o) So, now I have two machines.

And, all the gadgetry that came with it!

Needles.

A variety of feet.

Check out this crazy one!

Two needle holders, this one labeled "new", the other "used".

Bobbins.

A belt--that's still quite supple.

Here ya go, all the goodies.

And, the manual!! How important is this to have??

I don't know who she was, but she made sure to label her book. :o) I love that it's "Mrs." I don't know if I've ever labeled anything with "Mrs."

The inside.

I couldn't locate a date inside the manual. In fact, I've searched the 'net high and low for information on this machine and can find very little. I'd love to know how old it is. I would like to get it to the local sewing machine place and have it checked over to make sure it's in decent shape. I'm fairly certain it's straight-line stitching only, and truthfully, I'm absolutely dying to try it out!

But, I'm really curious too. I'd love to know more about the machine. Here are some details:

I love this "Electrified by Westinghouse"!

Alas, no date of manufacture. Gr.

Fun!

I know old machines are fairly ubiquitous because every homemaker/housewife had one. I also know this is probably worth about what we paid for it, which really wasn't very much. I also know that really, Singer Featherweights are the go-to antique machine. Still, this one is sturdy and sounds wonderful when it runs, and I'd love to know something--ANYTHING--about it. I suppose I'd best do a bit more research. ;o)

I love the veneer on the front and have no plans to paint the table. B mentioned stripping the lacquer or some such, and I'm more than happy to let him have at it. :oP

The foot pedal there is for my Janome. The Free-Westinghouse uses a knee presser, and boy howdy can it fly! And, you can see my Janome peeking there behind the table on the left side.

When the aquarium moved in, we lost our lamp table. This one works very nicely.

Given what we paid, I'd say we got a steal. :o)

Sparklies:

1. These two never fail to keep me entertained:
Please ignore the sand and grit in the bottom of the tub. I had just rinsed the rocks for the aquarium and hadn't had a chance to clean it before the boys came running to play with the stream of water.

Poor Fred had his dignity damaged when he fell in and scrambled for dear life to try to get out of the tub even though he didn't even get wet, silly kitteh. I think the insult to injury was when George jumped in on his head. :oP Or, maybe it was when I couldn't stop laughing...

2. He knows its my seat...
...he just doesn't care. ;o)

3. Signs of spring:

Hooray!! Of course, we're supposed to get snow tomorrow morning...gr.

4. Even though she has a cold, Ellie's not really that sick. Which is a GOOD thing.

5. We were invited to a birthday party held at Great Wolf Lodge. The kids had an absolutely blast!

6. Finn has started to ask for pettings. We're making progress, even if it is glacial.

7. The mulligatawny soup has been in the slow cooker for most of the day and the house smells incredible.

8. This beautiful story Jessie sent.
