Nailed It

I missed my call on the no-school thing today. I said they'd do a delayed opening first. Nope They'd called schools by 8:00 last night, pretty much as soon as I'd finished my blog post.

The freezing rain and sleet started around 9:00 or so this morning and then changed over to snow. It poured forth for awhile and then changed back to freezing rain and sleet as the temps dropped.

I was calling no school tomorrow by 2:00 this afternoon.
Uh huh.

There it is in all its icy glory.

Cars were zooming down the street. I'm not kidding. I'd have taken the snow over the ice any day of the week. Ice is scary. Snow is manageable.

I was reading a news article the other day and the second bullet struck me. It really is the worst winter I can remember in a long time. I know years and years from now we'll all be telling our grandkids about the "Winter of 2013/14".

Today was a slug day extraordinaire. It was lovely. The girls stayed in their 'jams and veged out on TV and video games. That happens so rarely we just rolled with it.

Tomorrow? Tomorrow is big fat cleaning day.
I've been bummed and not crafting.

I'm thinking this might be the problem.

O.M.G.

Seriously. How have I let that happen?

Then, there are the girls' rooms. Holy smokes. Bean was actually being a good girl and putting things where they belong when she cleans her room, and then she saw Lil clean her room by tossing everything in the closet. Guess what trick she learned... :sigh:

So, we'll be focusing on really cleaning tomorrow. I'm tackling the offudio, Lil is to figure out what to do about her room (me? I would dearly love to go in with a big ol' box and fill it up) and I'll help Bean get her room back in shape. I'm afraid if I go in Lil's room I'll lose my mind. She knows if I go in, a donation box for Good Will will come out.

I also need to do my daily chores--vacuum, dust the downstairs and clean the kitchen (counters, floors, etc.).

When I've finished working, I'm hoping I have time to play. I would like to put up my spring decor (I can dream, right?) and I picked up some project materials at JA last week.
Who doesn't love burlap?

Clearance washi tape (don't worry, that scary looking sponge back there was tossed soon after I snapped this photo).

And, fun sewing materials.

I'd looooooove to get out the book for the Free-Westinhouse machine and read up on oiling it and cleaning it and see if I can get it threaded and use it. I think B needs to see about the cord, though, so I don't electrocute myself or burn down the house...

But, once all that's taken care of, I want to give it a go. ;o) So, maybe not tomorrow. Oh well. I have other good crafty projects, right? :oP

B has some projects going on too.

We want to replace the brass knobs in our kitchen. We have 50 knobs that need replacing.

No, I'm NOT joking. 50 knobs! Have you priced kitchen hardware?? Yikes!

So, B read up on safe nickel plating and set it up in the kitchen to test it out.
I'd say we had success, wouldn't you?

And, here he's brushed it, so it will match the appliances and faucet. This rig was much much cheaper than buying new knobs. And, worst case scenario? We can purchase the same knobs we have now for a dime a piece at the ReStore if we fail miserably. I don't foresee that happening, though. :o)

This weather has really dragged me down. I was feeling bummed (I refer you back to the first W(h)ine and Cheese post last week) and found these. Oh dear. They were all kinds of amazing.

Then there was this in JA. Hooray! :o) Roy G Biv to the rescue! :o)

And, tulle! I have big plans for a project with tulle. :o) I didn't buy any, but I'm planning things out...

I left JA feeling much happier and with a plan to carve out ME TIME. It WILL happen.

And, finally, other things that have brought a smile to my face the past few days. Lil made this.

Here's another angle.

I have no idea where she got the idea, but she rolled with it and I love it. :o)

My husband found a local source for Elliston Flour!! Hooray! I no longer have to hoard the flour and buy massive quantities when I visit the 'burg! Biscuits and waffles for everyone!!! :oD My friend, Courtney, says the cornmeal is amazing as well, and has her dad ship her some. I think I'm going to have to check it out.

George totally evicted Baby Apple and stole her bed! Look at that, no remorse!

And, finally, for my folder of internet blunders, this. Really? They actually misspelled it in the headline and again in the article. CRAZY!

I think I'm going to go cozy down with a book. I picked up All Joy and No Fun, by Jennifer Senior. B heard her on NPR, as did Robin, and I've read a couple of excerpts, so Robin and I have decided to read and discuss. I was hoping for a little light reading, something along the lines of a romance novel, but hey, this will be just fine. :o)
