An Idyllic Summer

I was sitting at the pool today--during the first adult swim--reflecting on our summer so far. We've not had the traditional lazy summer of late nights and lightning bugs and shadow tag and lazy mornings. We've had the up by 7:30 and scarf down breakfast and hit the pool by 8:15 for practice sort of summer, and I'd been a bit bummed by it.

Then, I looked over at these four girlies, enjoying their icys (how the heck do you pluralize that word? "Icies"? "Icys"? "Icees"? ARGH!) while the adults had their turn in the pool and the lifeguards had a break and I realized something--life really is good!

I'm living the dream this summer. At least, the dream I had as kid and teenager--I'm spending practically all day at the pool! How could this possibly be a bad thing? (Don't answer that...!)

With the S's having extra lessons post swim practice, we're generally at the pool from 8:15 until 11:45 or so. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we come home for lunch, do 30 minutes of reading and then head back to the pool by 2:00. We then stay for two hours, leaving at the adult swim right before 4:00.

Look at that view? Isn't it lovely? Doesn't it look cool and refreshing? It's been especially delightful since it's been in the mid-upper 90s with humidistickity. Yuck.

How blessed am I to have the girls in swim team (yes, I griped and groaned and complained, I know I did) and be part of such a wonderful, supportive community? How delightful is it to be able to head up to the pool whenever we feel like it? We used to have to sign in when we arrived, now, the guards all recognize us and we simply walk right in. :o) The pool is rarely crowded during the afternoon, and I generally know or recognize most of the folks and families who are there. Our pool is super friendly and everyone is kind and watches out for one another's kiddos. I generally stay in the shallow end with Ellie and Sally, and if I can't spot Lil or Sadie right away, all I have to do is ask the lifeguard and they'll spot them for me. I love that even the guards know the kids.

Maybe I'm floating on a sense of "belonging" and "being", rather like "Cheers". I'm already looking ahead to when the girls are older and can go to the pool with their friends, or when I don't have to get in the pool with the girls. Because, as much as I might protest otherwise, I know we'll be doing swim team for years to come, even if it is only summer swim. Should either of the girls express a desire to swim year round, we'll check into it. However, we're good for now. :o)

I'm looking forward to more lazy afternoons at the pool and busy mornings full of practice. (Yes, I'm thoroughly enjoying "coaching" the little kiddos and the parents are apparently quite appreciative, which is always nice.) I couldn't have imagined a more perfect summer as a teen. ;o)

2.
This is what I have for yard photos for today. :o)

It bloomed--much earlier than I had anticipated this year. It makes my heart happy and twinge-y all at the same time.

3.
This. This thrills me beyond anything I could say.

4.
Anyone know what this is? It's some sort of vining plant GG found on her walk. It's beautiful.

5.
Just a reminder--an important one, I believe. :o)
