■ a day in the life

bastisRIKE was invited to take over the etsy instagram feed today/yesterday. we are still excited to be featured on etsy’s inspiring #dayinthelife series on IG.

i decided to show you the whole bunch of pictures i sent in. the large-sized ones are those etsy choosed for the series which is reduced to 5 pics a day.

My days start with a walk with Basti my dog and name giver for ‘bastisRIKE’. During spring our way is dotted with petal confetti. It’s the best thing to start a day and to wake up fully. And if it doesn’t help: Back at home breakfast and coffee is already waiting, prepared by my bearded man.

Baking is my kind of meditation if work gets too stressful. Besides the bakeries around our home are sadly quiet bad. So every couple of days there’s a bread dough growing. And if there’s just a small amount of time my favourite choice is the famous #nokneadbread.

Every now and then, depending on the order situation, i have to restock my stamps. This means cutting, mounting and applying matching labels on top. Not a creative part of my work but it helps with sorting thoughts and ideas.

Two sources of inspiration. Photos made with my old nikon and even more important: the bearded man pictured together with Basti. He’s by my side since almost 14 years and I cant imagine a life without him. He’s my best friend and the man i love.

When it comes to product pictures of my stamps i like to stamp paper to use it as a background or to wrap something up to use it as props.

Another inspiration source i like to decorate my home with: plants. This one is a philodendron xandau and i just love the shape of its leaves.

The wall above my second workstation. The one without a computer. And the one i use as shipping station and to print. The large type poster on the right is by one of my favourites Kim Hiorthøy. The photo on top is a work dated back to my time at the art college. And „Geheul“ is a reference to ‘Howl’ by Allen Ginsberg. I choosed to use the font „Albertus“ that was used for the back in the fifties.

This beauty helps me with the address labels for my mailings. Sometimes i also use it for my stamp designs.

I try to add a professionell but personal touch when it comes to packing orders. Handprinted paper bags, banderoles and cotton bags. If time permits, a handwritten thank you note to add to the orders. And on top another ‘thanks’ on the envelopes and on the back: a small kind request addressed to the receiver to recycle the envelope.
While packing i’m listening to my uptempo ‘packingorders’ playlist.

The second walk with Basti is the beginning of my lunch break. No matter what the weather is i try to take the time for a long walk to clear my mind and furthermore to plan the afternoon.

Talking about meditation through baking. There are so much recipes that don’t take to much afford of time so i like to bake something inbetween. To be honest if if i think i have no time at all for anything else than my todo-lists it’s baking time. Today: „Jamie’s Quick Portuguese Custard Tarts“ by

jamie oliver

Working on a new bastisrike project. #notanotherpaperproduct. It’s the biggest one when it comes to the measures. Drawn small, scanned and printed large to get a feeling for the proportions.

pantomime hands for mounting my new tree print to prepare it for the photo shooting.

Mounted and ready to be shooted.

In the late afternoon i like to have another break from work. It’s tea time and time for a book or magazin. Today: „Lifecycling“. Lifecycling actually is a web magazine created by a Japanese interior brand and this book presents up beautiful homes and interviews of their owners. Great inspiration.
Afterwards it’s time to ring in the end of work. ‘Feierabend’. I clear and clean my working tables and finish this with bookkeeping and other office organization tasks.

note: this is an image of an idealized day and the camera perspective shows just a glimpse. but i’m sure you are aware of that. the internet can be a bitchy beast, but as long as you know this it can also be a great friend …
