Wisons Leather Grand Opening at Assembly Row

SPONSORED POST

As if I needed an excuse to check out the brand new Assembly Row outlets in Somerville, Wilsons Leather was kind enough to invite me to their grand opening there on May 31st. Nestled alongside a Saks Off Fifth and a J.Crew, the latest Wilsons location has some pretty fashionable neighbors to contend with, but I was pleasantly surprised by how the store has stepped up its game since my mall rat days in the '90s. Think loads of buttery, colorful leather jackets; an inexpensive and uber trendy faux line; and well-priced accessories reminiscent of Aldo.

Being an outlet store, prices were all deeply discounted. Under $200 for a leather jacket? Done! But, if you're aiming for an even lower price point, you'll want to check out Wilsons' Black Rivet collection. Just as on-trend as any fast fashion brand, the line includes flared leather skirts, studded bags and motorcycle jackets. My favorite Black Rivet item, though, was the ubiquitous fatigue jacket with faux leather sleeves. Seen just about everywhere, the look will surely fall out of favor within a couple seasons, but for $69.99, who the hell cares?

Following the exposed brick walls toward the back of the store is where you'll find the fine leather in just about every color of the rainbow. While I had no luck in my search for the perfect black leather jacket (I'm picky, okay?), I did find this dream of a fuchsia motorcycle jacket and a sleek black and red number.

Most surprising, perhaps, was the selection of accessories. While wallets and handbags may be de rigeur at a leather store, I wasn't expecting racks upon racks of stylish sandals from the Black Rivet line. Nor was I expecting a wall full of scarves, with the widest selection of the infinity variety I've found yet (perfect for those of us who are totally inept at the art of scarf tying).

You can find the newest Wilsons and the rest of the Assembly Row shops at 340 Canal Street in Somerville. Let me know what you think once you visit!
