Tips for Dressing Your Baby on the Cheap.

Having a baby is so fun but it can also be expensive. When we spend about $100/month on diapers, milk, and baby food I just can't justify buy Greyer's clothes at Nordstrom or American Apparel (although I have before using Groupons, holla!). I've only been a mom for seventeen months so I'm no pro or anything, but I have figured out a couple tricks to saving money on baby clothes while still dressing him super fly. Yes I said that and now I feel ancient. But in all seriousness, babies grow every ten minutes which means they outgrow their clothes that fast too. That being said, I think it's safe to say that I spend mayyyybe $30 every other month on his clothes and here's how:

1. Size up. Kids look cuter in clothes that are too big for them rather than clothes that are too small... So purchase a couple sizes up (I usually just do about 2 sizes up). Sleeves and pants can be rolled and too-long shirts can be tucked in or worn as an undershirt or tunics (for girls). In the photo above, Greyer is wearing a cardigan size 4-6 months at age fourteen months. I can't for the life of me button it up, but it looks perfect open like that.

2. Rethink outgrown clothes in a new way. I've seen little girls wear their outgrown dresses as tunics/tank tops with leggings, and a cardigan or button-up can be worn as an outer layer with sleeves rolled and buttons undone so those pudgy little bellies can poke out without busting any buttons! If your child's waist hasn't grown as much as his legs, cut old jeans into shorts as the seasons change.

3. Stock up on basics that can be reworn over and over. Target and Old Navy sell t-shirts and pants starting at just $5! And since your child won't be wearing a neon green shirt with a dump truck on the front, people won't notice he is wearing the same gray shirt every other day. The other benefit to buying neutral basics is that they can be passed down to the younger sibling regardless of gender.

4. Style him with accessories if basics sound boring. Beanies, scarves, headbands, etc. can really bling out your toddler.

So there you have it.
