DEAR NEW YORK,

You will always be the place I met my husband, got my SAG card, went to college, held hands walking over the Brooklyn bridge at night with a guy I liked, bought my first couch, ate my first sushi roll, got my first apartment, stayed up way too late to see the sunrise in Thompkins Square Park, made my best friends, experienced "bottle service" bought my first pair of $200 jeans, got a fake id, saw my first real life honest-to-god celebrity ( Ethan Hawke, who I then met while doing my first off-broadway play.) You will always be the city that changed my life, that lit a fire, that made me hunger for more. You will always be in me because you made me stronger. "If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere" doesn't mean making it huge it just means surviving. If you can do this place, you can do anywhere. You were really hard sometimes, you could be incredibly difficult. Leaving you felt like taking the weights off and running free and I will always love you for that. I didn't leave you because you had beat me, I left because the student had become the teacher and now it was time to shine elsewhere. Sometimes a year passes without seeing you but I never doubt that we will cross paths again. It's always like seeing that old friend, the one who no matter how much time passes, you pick up right where you left off. Because we're that tight New York, you will always be in me.
