The TV revolution: how do you watch?

The way we watch TV is ever evolving. Only a decade ago there was a particular pattern to watching the best shows – we'd set our calendars and mark down the best shows of the week, using an actual physical guide like the Radio Times. Everyone would watch a big show and at work the next day the constant babble of "did you see that? She's going to win the BAFTA for sure…" might have been audible around the water cooler. But no more!
Everyone watches TV at different times and places. Buying a traditional TV subscription to a Sky or a Virgin Media is no longer a necessity for the most ardent of television fans.
On the commute on your iPhone, on your PC or Mac, there are masses of options to choose from thanks to the many legal streaming and downloading services now available. This has given us a huge amount of viewing freedom. Now whole series are available for immediate viewing, like Netflix's House of Cards, or the upcoming bound-to-be-brilliant return of Arrested Development.
Thanks to BBC iPlayer you can watch everything from old editions of Pointless to the latest mind-blowing series from everyone's favourite physics geek Brian Cox, Wonders of Life.
With the arrival of spring comes a top batch of American TV, with new seasons of The Walking Dead, Californication, Glee, and the final, climatic 8 episodes of arguably the best show on TV, Breaking Bad. It's a terrific time for telly.
Both Netflix and LOVEFiLM Instant are adding more and more TV shows every week, giving us an astounding range of excellent shows to pick from at low prices. These two services start from under £10 a month, while the iPlayer and 4oD services are free of charge.
So, break out the popcorn, set your phone to silent and snuggle up in your pyjamas from Very.co.uk this spring: the best viewing experience can be found on your own couch.
