I haven’t wrote in awhile and there’s a reason for that. The countless stream of useless, non-personalised emails from PR agencies who should know better than to send me badly written presspacks about artists that are totally not relevant to this blog, had me so underwhelmed and uninspired that I have turned my attention to another project. There is only so much you can take when everyday you open your inbox and its all just disappointment after disappointment eating up the storage limit. Quoting Andy Inglis, “There’s already too much bad music“. We don’t need more of them. Saying that, there are bands and producers who do push the boundaries of mainstream expectations and their own comfort zones. And these artists don’t tend to have PR agencies pushing their comms out, they do it themselves. These are the sort of gems you can only “stumble on”, the type of secret awesomeness that your mates gush at you at after gigs. They produce their own music, design their own cd sleeves and tapes, press their own vinyls, organise their own tour dates, make their own merch. The spirit of doing.
