Plaid

Happy Monday! So plaid is a “top trend” again this fall, but the thing about plaid is…well, does it ever really go out of style? It’s almost like saying little black dresses are a top trend. Ummm okay, duh. Lol. Nonetheless, I won’t complain. I love plaid…and this plaid shirt is on my list of favorites. Sometimes finding something super basic like the perfect plaid shirt can be unexpectedly difficult. I think it’s because when I’m hunting for basics, I have a pretty specific idea of what I’m looking for. In this case, I wanted madras plaid…red and blue…in a fall weight woven fabric but not flannel. I know, right? Pretty darn specific for a basic. And to top it all off, as with all button up shirts, finding a good fit was an equally fun challenge…something not too boxy…something I could actually button all the way to the top button without gaping…something long enough to tuck into jeans without being bulky. No wonder it took me a year to find the perfect plaid shirt. Lol! But, I’m glad I didn’t give up because I love this one. I actually can’t believe I didn’t buy two! Fortunately, it’s from H&M and you can always count on them to remake the same basics season after season…maybe in a slightly different color or pattern, but I can live with that as long as the fit is good.

Another super obvious “top trend” for Fall 2014 is knitwear. Again, duh? Okay, okay, I’ll admit the Fall 2014 knits on the runway went well beyond your typical sweaters…we’re talking head-to-toe knits on knits on knits. Again, I won’t complain. I love nothing more than a cozy oversized knit in the fall. I’ve had this chunky sweater vest for at least 4 years, and I can’t wait to break it out every fall…and year after year, I wear some version of this saaaame exact look. The combination with the plaid shirt was inspired by a look from Rag & Bone’s Fall 2010 collection…and 4 years later, I still love to recreate it. (Also, this is just more proof that plaid NEVER goes out of style!)

Aside from loving both plaid and knits in general, I’m also loving the fact that these are two trends that I have no shortage of in my closet. I am trying my hardest not to do too much shopping this fall (eeeeeek!). I need to do some serious saving between now and next March, and as much as I hate to admit it, my shopping budget could seriously be cut down to $0.00 and I’d still be able to make it through the season without repeating an outfit. The truth is I don’t NEED anything, but I WANT everything. Lol. I won’t fool myself into thinking I’m going to ban shopping altogether, but I’m trying to save my limited fall shopping dollars for those really special pieces…like a good pair of taupe suede over-the-knee boots…and maybe a tan leather moto jacket. Pray for me…

What fall trends are you loving right now?
