NYX Suede Eyeshadow Palette: Review, Pics, Swatches!

Purchased by me

The NYX Suede Palette ($12) was actually a summer release, but I find it PERFECT for fall! I was in Ulta the other day, looking for the Urban Decay Pulp Fiction palette. I found it, decided it was just more of what I already have and then spotted this gem all by it’s lonesome on a bottom shelf so naturally, I had to rescue it and give it a good home!

The NYX Suede palette is a beautiful mix of eight shimmery/pearlescent neutral and jewel-toned eye shadows that take your summer eye wardrobe right into fall and dare I say, resemble the changing leaves! My only suggestion for NYX would be the inclusion of a matte shadow to balance all the shimmery ones and for blending. Like me, I’m sure most of you have at least one neutral matte eye shadow that will work with this palette so it shouldn’t be a problem.

The packaging is a bit disappointing as it is fairly flimsy cardboard and I don’t know how well it will hold up while travelling or if you are extremely hard on your makeup bag like I am. On the other hand, this palette is a mere $12 so I wasn’t expecting a 24 carat gold case!

The shades do not have names or numbers so I will try to explain them:

Upper row:

  • Off White Pearl
  • Beige Pearl with slight green undertones
  • Gold Pearl
  • Peachy Bronze Pearl

Bottom row:

  • Olive Pearl with Gold Shimmer
  • Brown Pearl with Gold Shimmer
  • Teal Green Pearl
  • Burgundy Pearl with Shimmer

The texture of these shadows is very nice as much the same consistency as the palettes moniker–”suede.” They have a creamy, buttery feel that applies easily to lids, blends nicely and has little to no fallout. Pigmentation is excellent but you will want the use a good primer underneath or you will definitely notice some fade in color 2/3 thirds of the way through your day. A good primer will keep your shadow from creasing and fading for a longer period of time. I did use the word “shimmery” to describe these eye shadows but rest assured, they are NOT glittery or overdone–any over 40 woman can wear them.

The selection of colors in the NYX Suede Palette is well coordinated allowing multiple combinations and a plethora of looks. Each shade either blends or contrasts with each other making it easy-peasy to create multiple looks even for a beginner. I love the arrangement of pretty fall shades with deep jewel tones for more interest and definition. The palette leans warm but the addition of the jewel tones makes it okay for cooler skin tones also.

For this look I used the off-white under the brow bone, the gold shade in my lids, olive green in the crease and the teal shade as liner. I used Milani Eye Shadow Primer & CoverGirl Clump Crusher Mascara –all drugstore products without even trying!

I also added NYX Butter Gloss ($5) in Angel Food Cake, a nice pale berry shade for Fall or the transition to Fall.

Available at Ulta and nyxcosmetics.com

Bottom Line: a lovely palette for Fall eye looks at a GREAT price with pretty color rich shades. If you need a Fall eye shadow palette and are on a budget, this makes an ideal Frugal Friday buy, but hurry it’s limited edition!
