Jane Iredale is celebrating the 20 year anniversary of the brand! I really love her products and find the brand to be so underrated. It’s not ALL about mineral makeup, beauties–there is much more to Jane and the line! I’m particularly impressed with the City Nights Collection: smoky eyes with a twist, colorful liners to define eyes and beautiful sparkling berry lips all add up to a sophisticated autumn look perfect for the over 40 woman!

“Things always get more sophisticated in the fall, richer clothes, richer makeup and the events that go with them. Dinners in that new restaurant, a trip to see a Broadway play, maybe even an art opening (Picasso anyone?). This is why we called our new collection City Nights, a collection that speaks to the sophisticate in all of us – and is just perfect for a night on the town!” Jane Iredale

The collection includes:

The Celebrate Eye Shadow Trio is lovely. It consists of three shades: Mist, a pretty white with a pearl finish, Toast is described as a Toasted Caramel but I see it more as a peachy gold with a soft metallic finish and Port, a shimmery burgundy I was initially afraid of but since have come to love. These shadows have a silky texture and blend well. They are very easy to work with and really do, as Jane says, create a polished sophisticated eye. Port is a very appealing shade: it has very, very slight shimmer and is subtle but defines the eye beautifully. I like to use it in the crease. No worries beauties, you will NOT get rabbit eyes from Port–It has a brown base to keep that from happening. This trio is nicely packaged too. The compact is a pretty rose gold with a full mirror and a sponge applicator. I would prefer a brush but oh well! I can see this palette going from a work appropriate look to a sultry night on the town effortlessly.

Jelly Jar Eyeliners have the best texture! They are not too soft to work with, but not too hard to apply–they are just want Goldielocks always wanted–just right! These eyeliners are creamy and the two new jewel-toned shades are stunning! Both shades are nicely pigmented: purple is a rich royal purple and this olive green is perfect for Fall.

PureMoist Lipstick in Katerina is described as a mahogany rose shade and I’d say that’s a pretty good assessment (sometimes I don’t agree with the manufacturer’s shade description). PureMoist lipsticks glide on like a balm, but with much more pigment. I was surprised I liked this shade as I usually shy away from darker lip colors, but this is sheer enough to provide color without sacrificing moisture. This is a VERY nice formula: Moringa Oil moisturizes, Orange peel wax, avocado and sunflower seed oils give a luxurious, conditioned and quenched feeling to the lips and Vitamins A and C and coffee seed extract infuse the delicate lip area with antioxidant protection. The sleek tube makes application easy peasy. Another added bonus–my lips are not in the best or smoothest shape right now, but you would never know as PureMoist does not highlight dry areas.

PureGloss in Kir Royale is a total winner! It’s a red plum with sheer sparkle. It reminds me of a sparkling wine spritzer–see how I related that back to alcohol? It looks fabulous layered over Katerina or all by it’s lovely lonesome. I’ve been wearing it a lot and I think it works well with a variety of skin tones. Yes, it has shimmer, in the correct amount to add dimension and shine to the lips. The texture is super smooth and has a wonderful slip to it. It is housed in slim squeeze tube with the doe-foot applicator. Both of these lip products have a fruity candy-ish scent (gumdrops?) that dissipates after applying. THIS is a splendid choice for a transition lip into Fall.

My City Lights look:

Bottom Line: if you are looking for a polished, sophisticated makeup look for Fall without spending a fortune, you’ve found it in the Jane Iredale City Nights Collection! My only problem is deciding which product I like best, but hey I don’t have to! This collection is also perfect for us over 40 gals!
