Target Beauty Box Review!

Purchased by me

Today I am introducing Blythe A., a new Prime Beauty writer! Please welcome her to the team. Blythe has a great review of the Target Beauty Box and I can’t think of a better post for Frugal Friday!

For the second time this year, Target has released a beauty box. From what I’ve read online this is not the first time the retail giant has had these type of boxes, but for some reason they stopped producing them. I think the main reason Target relaunched their one-time purchase box is to promote their ever expanding beauty offerings. If you’ve been to your local store in the past few months, you have probably seen brands like NYX, PIXI, Fekkai, and much more popping up on the shelves.

I tried to get my hands on their spring/summer box earlier this year, but it quickly sold out. When the new beauty box was posted, I ordered it ASAP, especially since it is only $7, and shipping is free. Luckily, the new Target Beauty Box is still available, and you can order it at Target.com/beautybox.

The Target Beauty Box comes wrapped in the iconic “bull’s-eye” Target logo, while the box itself it a nice thick cardboard, which can definitely be reused. As mentioned above, the Target Beauty Box retails for $7, and the shipping is free. Each box contains the same 5 samples, along with a card detailing each item, and two coupons (one for $3 off a $15 Target beauty purchase, and the other for free shipping and 20% off at Dermstore.com).

The Samples

This fall, Target’s Beauty Box features two full size items, two deluxe samples, and one trial sample.

L’Oreal Colour Riche Extraordinaire Lipstick in Nude Ballet – Full size retails for $8

This is the second full size Colour Riche Extraordinaire Lipstick I have received in a box, and I can’t say enough good things about them. In fact, I am wearing Nude Ballet as I type this, and it is Oh La La. The lipstick is very pigmented, has just the right amount of shine, and feels very rich and moisturizing on the lips. Nude Ballet is a beautiful pinky nude with some brown undertones, which is perfect for fall.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil - Full size retails for $4.50

The NYC Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk Lait was the other full size sample that came in the beauty box. I wasn’t really sure what to make of the white color, as I am already pale; any lighter and they might call me Casper. Then I remembered that the 60s are back in style, and that the white eyeliner is an essential part of that look. Also, this pencil is designed to work as a liner and an eyeshadow, and really makes your eye makeup pop when you layer it underneath other shadows.

Fekkai Professional Blowout Hair Refresher Dry Shampoo – Deluxe travel size retails for $8

Dry shampoo is all the rage these days, and I’m always trying to find a good one. Fekkai Professional Blowout Hair Refresher Dry Shampoo definitely has potential. It has a fine mist, which went on clear, and left my hair feeling refreshed and looking fuller. The smell is a little strong, but compared to other dry shampoos, it isn’t too overpowering.

Elnett Extra Strong Hold Hairspray – Deluxe travel size retails for a little over $6

Elnett hairspray has been legend among celebrity stylists for many years. It was re-released to the public a few years back, and quickly began flying off the shelves. The packaging feels very old school to me, and so does the smell. However, the hold is great, and I love the fact that you can spray it and then comb it out if you need to adjust your hairstyle. It isn’t heavy and doesn’t weigh my hair down, which I love, but it also really helps my hair hold its style.

Laneige BB Cushion Sample (Exclusive to Target) – sample size retails for $5

This BB cushion sample was the smallest sample in the box, but I loved how it not only included the BB cushion, but also a sample of the Fair, Medium, and Dark cream. If you subscribe to any beauty subscription services, no doubt you have samples that you can’t use because they just don’t match your skin. Thankfully, Target and Laneige thought about this, and made it easy for everyone to sample the product. Even though I am kind of over the BB, CC, etc trend, I gave the Laneige BB Cushion a try. I actually really liked how it applied to my skin. The Light color matched me perfectly, and blended beautifully into my skin. The 5-in-1 technology definitely brightens, protects, cools and hydrates, prevents shine, and provides long lasting coverage.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with the Target Beauty Box. The products were well thought out, and the value of the box far exceeds the $7 I paid for it. Can’t wait to see what their next box holds in store, or to use my coupons to buy more beauty items.
