Too Faced Cat Eyes Eye Shadow Palette!

Too Faced Cat Eyes

Purchased by me

The Too Faced Cat Eyes Eye Shadow & Liner Collection, $36, was the second palette Cindy asked me to review. And yes, I did another happy dance. Like Smashbox, I have been in love with Too Faced for a long time. In fact, the first “look” palette I ever bought was the Too Faced Smokey Eye palette.

Too Faced describes Cat Eyes as, “The timeless Cat Eye just got sexier. From ancient Egypt to the mod ‘60s and punk ‘80s to today, it’s always been an iconic beauty essential. This classic has been updated with nine matte, shimmer and glitter textures in warm and cool tones. Included are three wet-and-dry formulas for intense precision lining and a perfect wing tip. This Cat Eye Collection comes with our signature Glamour Guide with three beauty looks to get you started.”

Now, that you know a little more about the theory behind the collection, let’s talk about the packaging, which is gorgeous. The palette comes in a small, slim metal box, with a magnetic closure and features a full- on cheetah print design. It just screams out, “I’m a diva and I don’t care who knows it.” Right away I was impressed with the size of this ferociously feminine collection, which stores easily and is also perfect for traveling.

As always, Too Faced did a great job with maximizing space inside the palette as well. A small mirror also doubles as a holding place for the Glamour Guide. What I love about this is that not only can you always have the guide on hand, but it also helps keep the mirror clean and free of shadow dust. Nice touch Too Faced!

The shadows are divided into three rows; Day, Classic, and Fashion. The last shadow in each row serves as the liner portion of the collection, and can be worn wet or dry. All the shadows in the collection are paraben, sulfate, and phthalate free.

The Day shadows include:

  • Purr – light white, beige shimmer shade with tiny flecks of glitter
  • Tiger’s Eye – coppery shimmer
  • Leopard – dark brown glitter

The Classic shadows include:

  • Meow – peachy, matte beige
  • Pussy Cat – a rich lavender shimmer
  • Jungle Love – a dark purple with hot pink/magenta flecks of glitter

The Fashion shadows include:

  • Kitten – light matte pink
  • Kitty Glitter – a silver shimmer with pink, white and silver glitter
  • Panther – a dark matte black, with flecks of glitter

To test out the shadows, I used the Glamour Guide to create three different looks. The directions in the guide are easy to follow, and the pictures also help ensure you get the look right.

All three base shades, Purr, Meow, and Kitten, went on very smooth and stayed in place for hours. I did use a primer, which definitely helped my eyes look Kitty fabulous, but I still think the shadows would last for hours without one.

I also found Tiger’s Eye, Pussy Cat, and Kitty Glitter to be blendable, smooth, and easy to apply. I did get some fall out from Kitty Glitter, but being that it is silver and contains a lot of glitter, the fall out wasn’t as noticeable.

The wet/dry liner shades in the collection, Leopard, Jungle Love, and Panther worked really well both wet and dry. They are intensely pigmented, without being too over the top. I think being able to create a cat eye with a liner brush definitely helped my technique. Though I must confess, my cat eye skills are still a long way from looking as glamorous and powerful as Cleopatra or Twiggy. Regardless, I can’t wait to experiment with some more looks of my own, with or without the cat eye.

Too Faced Cat Eyes

Bottom Line: Too Faced Cat Eyes is a great addition to any makeup collection, whether you are newbie, looking to expand your makeup skills, or a junkie, looking to take your cat eye beyond the traditional black liner look. Though the price point of $36 might seem a little expensive for 3 shadows in .07 ounces, and 6 shadows in .03 oz, there is still plenty of product to play with. Cat Eyes is definitely one of the most unique palettes I’ve ever seen, and it has quickly become a new favorite.
