Marsala Pantone Color of the Year 2015!

Marsala, a gorgeous combination of rich reddish browns and a wine-like hue, has been named PANTONE’s Color of the Year 2015. Truthfully, when I think of Marsala, I think pasta sauce. I’m not sure if I will be able to rock this shade–I imagine we will get every combination of red. burgundy, wine, berry, etc. As long as there is some warmth to the item I should be okay. Again, I confess, not so sure how this shade will translate to the eyes either, but that remains to be seen.

Today I have for you two lipsticks that are considered Marsala. First up is CARGO Cosmetics’ Essential Lip Color in Bourdeax ($22), CARGO’s first ever lipstick collection! Olive oil, Shea Butter and Jojoba oil provide essential moisture while plumping peptides offer instant fullness. This lip color is smooth, creamy and lightweight, offering high pigment payoff while leaving lips plump and perfectly hydrated throughout the day. There are 12 shades available, Bordeaux being the Marsala shade. Bordeaux is a deep burgundy wine with just a smidge of sparkle for definition. With darker shades like these, I like to apply a reverse lip liner to prevent bleeding; CARGO’s reverse liner works great.

Next is Smashbox Be Legendary Lip Lacquer in Bordeaux ($24). This is more of a liquid lipstick than a gloss in my opinion and they leave a nice stain behind. There are three attributes of Smashbox Be Legendary Long Wear Lip Lacquer that have me impressed: the non-stick formula, the long lasting stain and the hydration. Too many of these liquid lipsticks are drying. I love the high shine and texture of these so much I think they compare to YSL Glossy Stains at a third of the price!!

Sephora released their Marsala collection just this week which includes a lipstick, eye palette, liquid eyeliner, “cooling” multi-stick, mascara, layering lip crayon collection and a cheek trio. I would start with the lipstick and blush.

What do you think of Marsala?
