Muro.exe…my next everyday shoe?

For anyone who follows me on Twitter, my legendary woes concerning my flat feet and the inability to find a comfortable yet stylish shoe are no secret. For years, mannish brogues have been my footwear staple, and even then, it’s bloody hard to get a good fit. Of late, my thoughts have turned to sneakers - not the clunky eyesores that the market is mostly flooded with, but something sleek, something a bit different, comfortable but still aesthetically pleasing. Much as I love opulence in clothing, I usually prefer my shoes pared down and minimal with a few exceptions. Enter Muro.exe.

Muro.exe makes “wearable objects” - sneakers in this case, three of them for their first collection which was launched at Madrid Fashion week this month. When I told Sol, their representative, about my lifelong woes regarding shoes, I was delighted to find out that Muro.exe was made especially for people like me. Just as my gripe is with footwear that fails to be either comfortable or stylish, Muro.exe’s team was frustrated with the technical level of “fashion” sneakers as compared to professional ones which, again, didn’t look all that great. Banding together from all walks of design and manufacturing, the team decided to create a shoe that would be comfortable, look 21st century without borrowing from retro styles, and maintain the highest standards in terms of durability. The results are here for viewing now - Nuclear Winter, Acid Rain and Ttaps - the three styles designed keeping the “sixth extinction” (of which, undoubtedly, humans will be the last) in mind are beautiful in their minimalism and the attention to detail. From the shape that is unusual enough to provide interest, yet remains stolidly sneakerish, to the pyramidal eyelets and the colourblocked soles - the sneakers exemplify clever, thoughtful design at its finest. As for comfort, I’ll be testing out my own pair of Acid Rains soon, so keep a lookout here in the upcoming weeks! (Could never resist a bit of coral, could I?)

Muro.exe’s collection is unisex, ranging in size from EU36 to EU45, and is available for sale for 95 Euros a pair on their site. It will also be available in their Madrid and Berlin showrooms soon.
