Edge of Summer

I’ve talked before about how I used to kind of dislike summer. Not because I don’t like long relaxing days and gorgeous weather, but because I couldn’t figure out how to translate my love of structure and layering that so defines my style the rest of the year into the warmer times. And yes – this can be a real deal breaker. I’m not typically a sundress kind of girl or even all that into flowy fabrics, unless they’re balanced with a leather jacket layered over them. I hate not feeling like myself, especially when it comes to fashion. But once I realized that this was a real dilemma I was facing, it became a new challenge – to find my summer style. The edgy boho look was never one I considered, since boho is not usually a word I’d use to describe myself. However one day it occurred to me that the frayed edges, black fringe, and strappy details you often see in this style are very much a summer interpretation of the leather jacket and buckle boot look that are so “me” the rest of the year. Structure is not something that really works super well on the hot days summer unless it’s in your accessories. The rest of your look can still be breezy without feeling too soft. That’s why I love this poncho – it’s super lightweight and summery while still allowing me to do some layering. This new style inspiration is a welcome breath of fresh air during the official summer kick off!
