Review: Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Elusive

Hello gentle readers.

The chubby lip pencil trend has moved to the drugstore and more brands are jumping on the public's enthusiasm for these portable, easy to apply lip products. Lip pencils are great because not only are they cute and modern, they serve a dual purpose, acting as both liner and lip colour in just a few smooth, easy strokes. Who doesn't love that?

Revlon has added to it's chubby lip pencil line up with the Colorburst Matte Balm. I heard about these many weeks ago and have been scouring my local retailers for them in colours that I like. Sadly, when I actually did find them in my desired shades, the seal had been breached and the product had been swatched by some nasty person then returned to the display so I couldn't buy them. Grrrr! I finally had to order this one from Ulta to ensure that I received one that was pristine, and not contaminated by some dirty bird.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm is in a twist up tube. The tube is matte and lightly textured with a matte silver end cap. The colour closely corresponds to the colour of the product contained within. There is a nice handful of colours available from soft nude to deep red. Everyone should be able to find something to make them happy.

This is Elusive, a soft, cool leaning pink. The product has a light, cool minty scent that hangs around to give you a little lift and feel refreshing but not so long that you get sick of it or feel that it is getting obnoxious. By the time you are ready to reapply, it is a nice little lift.

Elusive on my hand. The lighting ended up a little funky on this one. But it gives you a good idea of how smooth and creamy this product is. It is billed as a matte lip colour but it is, in truth creamy without added shine.

On my lips. This is macro. If you have lip lines, like I do, don't let this product scare you. It looks just fine! No one gets up in our grills at macro. Hee! Hee! Besides, even at macro, this still looks pretty okay. Anyway, this lip pencil applies smooth and easily, it doesn't drag or skip or tug on my lips as I apply it. The point gives a lovely, more precise edge than a normal lipstick. The firm, creamy texture stays put, it doesn't move around, or migrate up into those annoying little fine lines I have around my lips. You know the lines I am talking about.... The lines that cause feathering. The lines we all have if we are over the age of, say, thirty or so. I can wear this all day long and it never feathers! Yippee! Something else I love, this is a matte, yet it is not drying. This formula is smooth and comfortable. I can wear it all day and when I remove it for the last time at night, my lips feel great. High praise, indeed!

I do have one tiny gripe with the Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm. This product is not exactly long wearing. It tends to break up and fall apart rather quickly. I think it is a side effect of it's being matte. If you look carefully at this photograph, at where my lips meet, you can see that the product is breaking up, falling apart. This photograph was taken only a few minutes after the above shot was taken. When I wear this lip pencil, I have to check my lips frequently and touch up often to keep them looking fresh and at their best. While I don't mind doing this, I am a serial lip checker and toucher-upper, I know that this is something that irritates some.

What I love about the Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm:
  • Chubby lip pencil packaging is cute, modern and portable. This is twist up and doesn't need sharpening.
  • There is a nice colour selection. Everyone should be able to find at least one shade that they can wear and love.
  • The formula is creamy and smells lightly of mint. It applies smoothly and easily without tugging or skipping. This lip colour stays put! It doesn't feather into fine lines around the lips!
  • This lip colour is matte but it is creamy and comfortable and not in the least bit drying. I can wear this all day long and at the end of the day my lips feel great.

What I don't love about the Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm:

  • This product is not particularly long wearing. It breaks up and falls apart very quickly. I have to check my lips and touch up often in order to keep my lips looking fresh and at their very best. I don't mind this but it may irritate some people who prefer not to have to fuss over their lip colour so much.
  • That's about the only gripe I have!

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm is terrific. You can find them at your local drugstores, big box retailers, grocery stores, online, Ulta, on Ulta's website, Target... They are pretty much everywhere. They retail for around $ 8.00 or so, prices can vary by location and store. They are often BOGO 1/2 off and there are often coupons in the Sunday newspapers or online for extra savings. I would recommend that you check the tiny tape "seal" very, very carefully for signs of tampering. Take the cap off and examine the point of the product in the strongest light you can find for signs that someone has swatched the product. You don't want a contaminated lippy in your life. (Yes, I am kind of obsessed about this!) I plan to hunt down a few more colours for myself. I heartily recommend that you do the same.
Have you tried the Revlon Colorburst Matte Balms? Do you love them? What are your favorite colours? Do tell in a comment. I'd love to hear what you think about these lippies.
Thank you for swinging by and have a great weekend!
