Our Wedding Notes: Tea Ceremony (joey'space)

After “Fetching Me“, we had a short break but the break was almost nonexistence. Had lunch, finalized our seating arrangements and a quick shower. We managed to take a 15 minutes power nap and before we knew it, it’s time to get ready for Tea Ceremony.

If you are unfamiliar with the culture of Chinese Wedding Tea Ceremony, I have extracted the following definition from this article.

The tea ceremony is the most significant event in a modern chinese wedding as the traditional three prayers ceremony is usually not practiced. The bride is formally introduced to the groom’s family through this ceremony. It will usually take place on the wedding day when most of the family members are present.

For this traditional ceremony, I have chosen to wear the Chinese Qun Kua from House Of Etiquette and Mak got his Mandarin collar suit specially tailor-made at the Oxford Tailor.

Angela Pang from House Of Etiquette is super friendly and helpful with choosing the right Qun Kua for the occasion. Before this wedding, I knew next to zero about Qun Kua — not that I know a lot about them now but I am happy to have learnt a lot along the way.

Qun Kua ranges from “Princess” – more modern, less elaborate; “Queen” – more dazzling, more details and “King” – fully embroidered, very detailed. My piece is classified under the “Princess” range.

Brides wear red Qua Kua as the colour not only defines powerful and auspicious but also believed to drive evil spirits away. Mother and Mother-in-law’s Qun Kua comes in a black top and red skirt and full black for Grandmothers — my Grandma wore one (pictured below) and she looks absolutely stunning.

Alex Lee from Oxford Tailor helped Mak with his suit and the craftsmanship is flawless. They are very professional and experienced in what they do, Mak was in great hands.

Mak finds them friendly and helpful. Alex also shared many styling types and helped with choosing the fabrics, colours, textures and patterns. They also deliver the pieces very timely — Mak went fitting once and all the pieces were ready for collection a week after.

Wearing a piece with my Mother’s initials — hoping to share this moment with her; she will always have a special place in my heart.

Love the hair Jamie Chu from Hairesources Hairdressing Salon did for me. She made my hair look as if they were longer. I am deeply in love with the plaited side and fresh flowers my wedding planners arranged.
