Bergen: The City Of Seven Mountains

CLARION HAVNEKONTORET HOTEL

We arrived at our hotel in Bergen at night after Norway In A Nutshell® — it was cold, dark and all shops were closed, we were really tired too so we decided to rest and leave exploring the city till the next morning. Havnekontoret Hotel is part of Clarion Collection which is all over Norway.

This hotel provides breakfast and light dinner which we had once we arrived. Colours and setting of the room is somewhat gothic looking, dark scheme with heated towel railings in the bathroom.

This hotel’s location is just minutes from the Rosenkrantz Tower dating back to the 1500s and it’s near many attractions including Bergen Aquarium and Haakon’s Hall medieval castle. This boutique hotel is situated in the historic facilities of the old harbour control office along the seaside area known as Bryggen.

Up and feeling energetic, had a great rest last night and we are ready to go out to explore Bergen.

It’s really, really windy today and according to locals, it’s rare to be this windy — so we brought snow to Oslo and wind to Bergen? Hmm.. anyway, we didn’t let the wind get in our way although its so strong, I thought I was gonna be blown away.

First, we stopped at Fisketorget. This Fish Market offers an arena of natural and fresh quality products focusing on local goods and specialties from sea and farming. This market is also the exclusive venue for trading fish, seafood, shellfish and other locally produced farm food such as fruits, berries, vegetables and flowers.

Imagine the traditional wet market and smell of raw fish, no, it’s nothing like that. This Fish Market is very clean.

Caviar lovers will find yourself in caviar heaven with the great variety. Some pink caviar for you?

After a morning scroll and some caviar shopping, we went back to the hotel to pack and check out because we will be departing Bergen tonight.

Before we bid Bergen farewell, we spent a lovely afternoon exploring the town. It’s such a beautiful place, I love the old charming streets filled with characteristics.

Lunch at a Chinese restaurant — not too bad.

Despite being an international city, this “capital of the fjords” has kept its small town charm. Here, you’ll find the colourful old wharf of Bryggen, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its well-preserved old buildings, along with a vibrant fish and flower market, cable cars with stunning views, great museums and more.

Bergen is definitely a must to visit if you are in Norway.

Thank you for looking.
