New Year's Resolutions and the 10x10 Challenge

Hi!
Firstly, a very happy new year to all of you who read my blog. I hope the festive period has been good to you all, and that you're feeling as positive about the forthcoming year as I am. This is going to be a fun mishmash of posts that I hope I'll be able to fashion into some basic order. I want to talk new year's resolutions, particularly in terms of blogging.
I find that blogs and YouTube make me spend money, and I know I'm not the only one. Reading a fashion blog is like an edited shopping trip for me, and I trust YouTube beauty gurus more than any other source for honest product reviews and inspiration, so when I see a great review of something new, I want to try it out. Whilst I'm not going to stop reading and watching for now, I am going to make a conscious effort to be less influenced by my favourite bloggers and stop spending so much money on things I don't need. I have a holiday to save up for, and I'd much rather go to Japan with my boyfriend than buy new makeup and clothes every month.
With that, I bring you my new year's resolutions!
1. Save at least £200 per month for Japan. I'll probably save more, but this is the absolute minimum.
2. Spend less than £30 per month on clothes and accessories. Any more must be covered with eBay earnings.
3. List at least one thing on eBay every other week. (Money will go to the Japan fund, or any must-haves I feel I can justify.)
4. Exercise daily for fifteen minutes to strengthen my muscles and improve flexibility (I have a lot of muscle and joint problems, and at twenty-two I really need to try and lessen them while I can to avoid future complications).
5. Blog at least once a week. (Yay!)
6. Drink more water.
7. Follow my own £100 Beauty Challenge/Makeout 2014 hybrid plan - the 10x10 Challenge!
This last resolution brings me to the second part of this post ...
I have failed the £100 Beauty Challenge. :(
It all started when I cleared out my lipstick drawer and wanted to get into lip colour more. Topshop Velvet Lips came out, and then Boots and Superdrug both very selfishly had 3 for 2 offers on, and before I knew it I'd blown the challenge. I also blame Urban Decay for releasing such amazing holiday products for 2013, and BeautyBay for discounting them so much. And, well, I heinously over-indulged myself too, I suppose. (u_u)'
Anyway, I decided to buy up a few things towards the end of December and start this year with a new beauty challenge to follow. It will be a hybrid of the £100 Beauty Challenge and
Pinksofoxy's Makeout 2013 project, and I'm going to name this the 10x10 Challenge.
The rules:
  • A maximum of either £100 spent on makeup in the year, or ten makeup purchases in the year, whichever comes second. (So, if I spend £100 on eight products over the year, I can buy another two.) This controls spending and quantity at the same time, meaning I can either spend less on products, or have fewer products of a higher quality added to my collection.
  • Use up ten products in the year, and review them on here
  • Make a makeup inventory so I always know what I have to avoid buying duplicate items.
  • Exclusions are base and top coat for my nails, as I'll get through these if I want to use up some of my polish, toiletries, hair products, and skincare. My mum and I have done really well in using up a lot of toiletries over the last few months, I buy hair products very rarely, and my skincare is either home-made, or bought from Lush maybe three or four times per year.
I think I have a much better chance of sticking to this challenge as I've bought some great products that I love, meaning I have little temptation right now; the only things I really fancy buying are a couple of lip liners, and some Lime Crime lipstick, both of which I can do without for the time being. I also like the wiggle room of being able to go over one side of the challenge within the parameters of the other, and the use-and-review cycle should keep me motivated. :) I just want to enjoy the things I have for now.
I have £20's* worth of Amazon vouchers coming to me in the post, which I'm going to put towards a copy of Photoshop Elements 11. I'll try and make a graphic or two for this challenge as I'm a nerd and that will get me excited!
Please let me know if you fancy doing this challenge too, or if you're just trying to cull your spending habits for the new year! Are you saving for something? Or do you just want a lifestyle change?
*I'm pretty sure the possessive 's is the appropriate way to stylise this, as it'd be twenty pounds' worth if written out in full.
