Joe Browns: Surprisingly Goth

Joe Browns is not a company I shop with. In fact, I'd more or less forgotten that the brand existed once their catalogues stopped appearing at our door. However, I was intrigued by them again after my friend Caitlin got a couple of very, very nice dresses over the holidays, and my investigations turned out to be pretty damn fruitful.
I'd assumed Joe Browns was much like Desigual, a brand I am really not a fan of. With the exception of a few coats here and there I find their designs to be too folksy and 'bitty', and I'd written Joe Browns off for much the same reason. True, a lot of their designs hark at the craftier side of fashion, but there are some surprisingly goth-appropriate items that I absolutely love.
(Clockwise from left: Scroll dress, Wistful Waistcoat dress, Vibrant Versatile camisole, Heathcliff coat, Fun Bear hat, Effervescent dress, Flocked skater skirt.)
Pretty, no? I really love the Scroll dress as it reminds me of old wallpaper, and the coat is calling to me as it can be converted into a jacket by removing the skirt! Their camisoles look great, too. Plus, you can get 10% off currently using the code 'MAR623' which is working on sale items as well as full price. (Time to list some items on eBay, I suppose!) I really love finding an off-high street brand that you don't see as often, so I may well turn to the surprisingly Goth-friendly Joe Browns more often if I fancy something new.
