Getting Hair Ready for Fashion Week with Sally Hershberger LA

http://www.glamlatte.com

Fashion week is around the corner and I’ve mentioned to you that I will be headed to London. After a thinking long and hard about it, I have opted to skip New York this year. It was a really tough decision that I have gone back and fourth on several times (last week I went so far as to fill out the info at the end of the flight purchase but something stopped me and I didn’t click ‘buy ticket’) the fact is, I will be in Europe for 21 days and going to NYC was just not a smart move. I have so much on my plate and decided I would rather be great at a few things than mediocre at several things.

That being said, I still need to get ready for the trip. I’ve never been to a fashion week outside the US, so this is a big deal. New brands, new designers and a whole new fashion scene. I knew this called for something major, so I headed to the only people I could trust with the task – Sally Hershberger Salon. My stylist was Nicole and my colorist was Andrew and you guys…these two are the dream team! If it’s possible to have a crush on your hair stylists, I do…I really really do! They both went above and beyond and I walked out feeling like a rockstar.

First, let me say, the salon is awesome. I didn’t expect it to be as big as it was. It’s very clean, the staff is beyond nice and the service is friendly and efficient. Each stylist and colorist has an assistant that will tend to your every need, making you feel like a VIP. (I had about 3 almond milk cappuccinos and they even went and picked me up lunch!)

My first stop was Nicole’s chair, where we discussed my hair status. I told her about my several years of flirting with the idea of blunt bangs, (You might remember this post from March 2012!!) and the two reasons I’ve never pulled the trigger: 1. everyone always talks me out of it – including stylists and 2. I am VERY lazy when it comes to my hair and bangs are a lot of work. In the midst of our discussion, Andrew came over and announced that after my cut he will be coloring my hair and then doing keratin, at which point Nicole and I looked at each other and that was that. Bangs it is!! (If there is any possible way to have bangs when you are as hair lazy as me, it’s with a keratin treatment.) I just knew I was in safe hands and really trusted these two whole heartedly. I had none of my usual hesitation and just went for it.

Next I headed to Andrew’s chair where he proceeded to lighten my hair for a natural balyage look, but he used foils. He said he would have more control and it would look even better. He was 100% right. He nailed the color with aboslutely zero brassiness and the did the keratin immediately after. I thought you couldn’t do them both at the same time, but he informed me that after you color, your hair is the most open, which means it will except the keratin even more and it will last longer (bonus!) After a few hours of working his magic, he then sent me back to Nicole to finish shaping and do the final bang trim. I couldn’t stop smiling as I watched my face emerge from the hanging hair. I didn’t recognize myself, yet I loved it!

In case you missed it, I posted the final look on instagram, but stay tuned to see how it looks after my first wash. Keratin always makes your hair extremely smooth and straight when you first get it done, so this is not a true indicator of the final look yet. Nicole said my bangs would spring up a bit and they already have after the first sleep. They are looking better and better everyday!

I am beyond happy with the outcome and I will be returning right before I leave for a bang trim (one little detail with bangs is you need to trim them every few weeks when they are this long.) This really was the perfect way to get a complete hair makeover without chopping off all my hair and the perfect way to prepare for fashion week!

I thought I’d share some snaps of the salon as well as me going through the process to give you guys and inside look.

If you are in the West Hollywood area, Sally Hershberger Salon is a MUST.
