10 x a happy sale shopper

Sale is here. Sale, aka the most wonderful time of the year. Right? Well, it can be rather difficult to become a truly happy sale shopper. It is so easy to grab everything along, just because it is far cheaper than it used to be. You probably end up never wearing your sale goodies plus you're going to experience there's a lot of month left at the end of your money. Oops! I am not saying I am an expert on this (what can I say, it can be just so damn hard to resist!) , but I do have a few tips that might work for you too:

(1) Make lists
Oh, there you have 'em again: lists. The easiest way to prepare yourself and to prevent impuls purchases. Create a list with everything you would like to get your hands on. Think about it, and take some time to finish it. If you're in doubt about something, wait a week and then see if you still like it. If not, cross it off your list.

(2) Don't just buy because it's cheap
Never a good reason. Don't get tempted.

(3) Don't go for fabrics you otherwise (read: if not with 70% off) wouldn't have bought
Especially for summer, it is a good idea to stick with fabrics that breathe, like cotton and linen. You don't want to look and feel all sweaty!

(4) Stick to your budget
It's nice to have a certain budget in mind before you enter the madness. Never spend more on sale than you originally planned.

(5) Go shopping by yourself
Whenever you're going sale hunting, go by yourself. It's really easy to get distracted if you're going with your best friend. She probably sees tons of stuff that would be great for you, and you don't want to distance from your original plan.

(6) Choose quality over quantity
It's better to buy one long lasting piece (for example a nice pair of jeans), than a couple of items that you'll be wearing once, or maybe not even at all.

(7) Try it on
The fit is always important, even when it's dead cheap. If it doesn't fit right, you wouldn't feel comfortable in it, which will result in not wearing it. And that's always a waste of money.

(8) Does it really fit your style?
If you're in doubt if a certain piece might really be something for you or not, try to think of combinations with it. Can you come up with three different ways of matching it with items from your wardrobe? Then you might want to buy it. If not: don't.

(9) Plan your shopping route
To make your visit to the shops as efficient as possible and to prevent distractions, plan your route beforehand. Pick some stores you definitely want to visit.

(10) Always think of price per wear
Usually I keep this in mind when considering something more expensive, but it does work on sale items, too. You should think of the times you'll be able to actually wear it. If, for example, you want to buy a gorgeous summer dress at the end of the season, just because it really fits your style, it's probably best to just let it hang in the racks. You'll get little opportunities to wear it, and it will end up in the back of your closet. You might think you'll still like it next year, but that's probably just wishful thinking.
