painting the town red on valentine's day! and by town, i just mean floor.

valentine's day this year started beautifully, with warm sunshine streaming in the windows and a late morning with my little sleeping angel... i did some reading! and then we snuggled. mornings like that are my heaven...

after we rolled out of bed, i decided upon a practical but valentiney outfit for the little lady, because we had big plans, hey hey! mostly including a big ole grocery run, (and some other little things that we wouldn't actually end up doing)...

but then... the dark clouds rolled in and the rain poured down! as did red acrylic paint... all over my floor and my baby. i walked into the office to find...

...ooooh no no no! i didn't turn my back on her for long, but the toddler skills are getting miiighty impressive these days. and unscrewing caps! oh glory glory! cleanup on aisle baby. if only the red paint blended into my carpet as nicely as the metallic sharpie she doodled earlier last week blends in with my desk drawer! i mean, i am not one to squelch her creativity, no ma'am, but this artistic bit was maybe not my fav.
and so, after all my best efforts to salvage her little clothesies (my favorite of all her shirts!) and our carpet (hey, giant pink blotch!), we finally made a rainy but successful trip to the grocery store, where i definitely treated myself to a bag of donuts round two (no regrets on v-day!!).

then, yaaaaaay! our handsome valentine came home, bringing kisses, chianti, and flowers for his ladies... aaand we valentinesed...

...by ordering pizza, pouring the vino, watching a few episodes of friends, and living happily ever after! red paint disaster aside, it was such a perfectly lovely evening. plus, i mean, pizza is always the best answer, yes?

i've always been a big fan of valentine's day. i love a holiday to focus on little gestures from the heart... for the sake of love! and not so much for the sake of spending money on gifts. with all the gift guides and wishlists and online shopping and expectations out there these days, gosh, i love nothing more than a sweet handwritten note! and lucky me, my mr. prince charming writes some good ones. and flowers. roses! i will never object to roses.

...and so! that was valentine's 2014! and really, i'm just glad our dishwasher didn't overflow this year.
