The Lace Up Wedge

Sweater: Helmut Lang, Jeans: 7 for All Mankind, Boots: SOREL, Hat: Grace

As an East Coast girl, born and raised, I’ve become accustomed to finding footwear that stand up to the elements but also magically fall into place with any outfit. It’s always fun to spot the people who aren’t from the northeast (especially around feb fashion week) who show up in sky-high stilettos and try to handle the elements. East coast girls are too good for that. We know how to spot a chic pair of winter boots, and for me, that always includes some form of a wedge. I once had a pair of wedge knee boots that I wore so much that a hole wore right through the bottom. I saw it as a badge of toughness. These SOREL boots have now filled the void that those other boots tragically left behind and I know these will go in my suitcase as I travel in November from New Orleans to New York City to Colorado and perhaps London if all works out. Snow, rain, city pavement, these will be the most versatile pair of boots that I’ll have with me. There’s an interesting tint to the leather that lets them act as the perfect winter neutral and the laces and wedge heel add a polish that I always love to have when I get dressed up. I also like mixing the different textures of the chunky knit and burgundy crackled faux-leather jeans to really add depth and richness to a fall transitional outfit. It seems you can take the girl out of the East Coast but you can never take the East Coast out of the girl!
