NIGERIAN DOCTORS CANCEL STRIKE

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Saturday night cancelled its 7-week-old strike directing all doctors to return to work immediately. The striking doctors agreed to cancel the strike after a delegates meeting of the association where 255 delegates were in attendance with 199 voting to call off the strike. The Abuja meeting started at 8pm and ended at 11pm. The strike was cancelled following a deal between the association and federal government where Senate President David Mark was the “interface”. All sacked Resident Doctors will be recalled while the suspended Residency Programmes in teaching hospitals will be reinstated by the federal government as part of the deal. All their demands will also be met.
