a last look at montreal, for now

Montreal seems like a long time ago now. I've pretty much straight out stolen most of these photos from my friend Anna's epic facebook album, "Montreality," because they were too good not to share, and because I think with the eyes of a foreigner sometimes she saw things the way I couldn't.

It was interesting visiting a quite different place within my own country with two people from another country. Sometimes things that were obvious and "Canadian" to me were foreign to them, and yet I was aware of feeling foreign myself, and that because of the language divide I wasn't always fully plugged in. Living in a foreign country as I do, it's a feeling I'm more or less used to, but it's strange to feel that way in your own country (although actually I get similar feelings from the UK... on paper I'm British too but in practice I don't feel it).

This trip to Montreal was for research as well as pleasure... for a couple of years now I've been considering moving there if and when I decide to pack up and go back to Canada. I still haven't made that decision, and I'm definitely in Barcelona for the next year, but Montreal certainly seemed like a place where I could see myself. Time will tell.
