Interiors Round-Up: Fabric fun with furniture

I feel like even for someone like me who loves color and mix & matching, with larger scale furniture items like arm chairs and a couch, most of us opt for the solid color so that it ‘goes with everything.’ Am I right? I’m loving a furniture fabric fest right now and have found so many different ways to introduce this into your own interior. Okay, so the above isn’t technically a couch, but it does make the simplicity of draping your furniture in textiles look pretty fab. This is something you can do whenever you want a bit of a pick-me-up, but don’t want to commit to buying the patterned sofa or getting your current one reupholstered.

If you are into getting a piece recovered, why not try it using bright flatweave throws brought back from South America or go Mexican like I did with my rattan chairs (above).

I love the idea of something really outrageous that you wouldn’t normally expect to see in a lounge room, like the African textile for the couch and matching ottoman, the super vibrant primary colors in a white room or some amazing tie-dyed batik fabric for something a bit left of centre!

Now, a floral couch is high on my wish list- you can’t go wrong! I do love getting in touch with my inner little old lady, but there is something quite young and cheerful about a floral printed piece of furniture.

Maybe you don’t do the whole couch in patterned fabric, but just the back or the bottom edge and arms. I also love the idea of this day bed made up of thin mattresses all covered in different fabric- looks amazing and reminds me of the princess and the pea

I noticed that most of the rooms that these fun furnishings look best in are painted in solid neutral colors- I think white helps the piece pack the most powerful punch! What do think? Any ideas for recovering anything in your home over the holidays? I’m eyeing my big, boring navy couch right now…
