FRESH/LICKS // The Proper Ornaments – Summer’s Gone

London’s Proper Ornaments have just announced their follow up to debut, or compilation more like, ‘Waiting for the Summer’ which was released via Lo Recordings last year. The new one is called ‘Wooden Head’ scheduled for June 9th with ‘Summer’s Gone’ being its lead track. The band have signed to Fortuna Pop and Slumberland in the US for the release of the LP. With cues taken from Velvet Underground, Jesus and Mary Chain, The Television Personalities and the great West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, their songs are a jaunty and catchy affair with sublime harmonies and chiming Byrdsian guitar - at least at first listen.
Observing ‘Summer’s Gone’ closer reveals a darker twist and a profound air of melancholy touching on the issues of mental illness. Summer’s gone and taken your heart, you fail it as you’re falling apart. Now that it’s over clarity’s here
