BANDCRUSH // TWEENS

US trash-pop trio Tweens opt for a sneering girl-gang sound, sprinkled with some pop elements that’s anything but well behaved. Tweens’ self-titled debut album is a collection of garage-influenced punk-brat tracks, the majority dealing with relationship stuff, unrelenting independency and boys who fucked up. In ‘Be Mean’ lead singer Bridget Battle motivates the well-mannered type of male to misbehave – because “I wish I liked nice, nice boys – there must be something wrong with me … “. Tweens combine girl-group catchiness with ‘90s garage rock which earns them the label ‘bubblegum badass’. They sound like they were ripped from the ’90s, focused on a pre-punk style of pop that is creating a double layer of musical nostalgia. “I’ve always preferred music that sounds like shit. I appreciate the aesthetic of lo-fi, and as far as I know, always will.” Tweens have been around for two years now and could quickly manage to make a name for themselves when opening for The Breeders on their U.S. tour and supporting The Black Lips. They inked a deal with respected indie label Frenchkiss Records in 2013 which is known for its ability to discover bands who take their acts to the next level.
