North-Africa meets Japan: Madame Roba

Hello!
It's been a really busy weekend again, but FUN! Last Saturday I was lucky to be able to visit an exhibition in a northern Tokyo, at gallery Za in Sugamo. I had been in this area last year (read my post about cafe galerie Une Assiette here) and I was happy to explore a little but further this lively neighbourhood. I first heard about Madame Roba about 7 years ago, when my then baby daughter received a beautiful pair of Moroccan babouches from a dear Japanese friend of mine.
I got in touch later on with Akiko - the founder, owner and designer behind the label, and got a pair for myself as well. When we moved to Japan, I let her know about it. We nay got to meet up this month, as Akiko is living in Kyushu island and rarely comes to Tokyo. I am glad I managed to meet her up after so many years!
Her babouches are made in Morocco, but all the embellishments are added in her atelier in Oita (Japan). The event is on until September 28, 2014, have a look if you are in the area!
