BAtoMA @ Laforet Harajuku Museum {Tokyo}
Hello!
Today on the blog is a report on the BAtoMA tradeshow that took place at the Laforet Harajuku Museum during Tokyo Design Week. I had received an invitation from BCBasics (thank you Wakako!) and I am glad I made it over the weekend. The show was slightly smaller than I expected it to be, but I made new acquaintances and discovered new labels - local and from afar. I caught up on camera a couple of cute set up details as well as some of the booth I really liked. Check out the links under each set of photos to discover the businesses behind the pics!
I also explored the website and I invite you to take a peek at the BAtoMA Christmas edition that took place last May 2014. Loving the vibe and the unique identity of each booth.
The reception area (photo above) - there is an entrance fee (1000yen) if you don't have an invitation.
This is giving you a good idea of the layout. Each booth has its own 'atmosphere/ identity' which creates a very interesting vibe. Definitely inspiring!
Below is the booth of BCBasics, which I loved! The wall display was so inspiring and cute, with the colourful shelves perfectly coordinated to the wall. Cloud mobiles by The Butter Flying, photo booth props by Moustache and Lips, shape makers by Miller Goodman...
Below, imported Mexican designs by EREACHE - I choose the stuffed animal or wrestlers heads as well as the copper kitchen wares, super cute!
Below, Spanish homeware label Sargadelos distributed in Japan by Glrow.What's not to like? I hesitated to purchase the ceramic pendants...
The booth of Le Bretagne, a café-crêperie located in the back streets of Omotesando.
Horide-san, the man sitting behind the counter and serving the sirup, heard me speak in French to my son (who was with me) and he told me a bit of his story in French! He lived in Paris and studied design for 6 years before relocating to Japan and opening a cafe named Holiday with his wife. It's located in Kamakura, a charming and historical town by the sea at about 1 hour train ride from Tokyo. I invite you to check out their website ( we are holiday ) as it is rich in graphic design projects, art and event direction. I am planning to visit Kamakura and the Holiday cafe very soon!

Another interesting booth was the one of Paper Tree, a select stationery shop that distributes Los Angeles-based label Sugar Paper - among others. Very beautiful and elegant designs available.
Here below is my little fellow who bravely endured the crowd in Harajuku/ Omotesando on a public holiday and waited - although not very patiently, until I was done with my exploration and chit chat. Kudos to him!
