Breakfast at Vicinity Dining, Alexandria (Fashimi)

If only there were places like this when I was working down the road at Taste.com.au many years ago. Back then, all we had to choose from was Doody Bird Cafe (yes, that’s a real cafe) and Wheels and Cupcake. How things have changed…

Vicinity Dining had just started serving breakfast, and judging by the huge size of this place, you won’t have to wait long to get a table (unlike some other restaurants in the area). They focus on vegan and vegetarian food. But before this totally repels some of you, it’s actually really good and they do have meat options for the carnivores among us.

Tasty things like African baked beans and breakfast bruschetta all sound great and I love that they use Pepe Saya butter. Don’t miss their bircher muesli if you’re feeling like being a bit healthy. It’s full of all sorts of good things for you like black chia seeds and such. Plus they use coconut water instead of fruit juice which apparently makes it even healthier.

If you’ve just exercised so feel like you can treat yourself (ie. me everytime I work out thus ruining the point of working out) or just want to eat something not as healthy, the French toast made with buttermilk is a good option. It’s served with fresh fruit with a vanilla bean creme fraiche and is damn tasty.

So if you’re in Alexandria and certain places have an hour wait (I’m looking at you, Grounds of Alexandria), Vicinity Dining is definitely a good go to option – good food, good coffee and no waits (although this might not last long if Alexandria keeps getting more popular!)
