Colleen & Dave’s Youthful and Vibrant Cobalt Blue and Hot Pink Wedding

Colleen and Dave met at a Toys ‘r’ Us and their wedding was just as bright and playful as their fated meeting place.The vibrant and fluorescent hues they chose for their motif clearly reflected the fun personalities of the young couple.

The lovebirds’ very cute story as told by the pretty Colleen herself:

Dave and I met at Toys R Us. He was attending the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay and was working there part time in the electronics department and I was a senior in high school who had just gotten a seasonal cashier job there. When I first met him in the break room, he was so nice to me and I thought he was really cute. After joking around that he “hated” me because I brought him empty electronics cases, he ended up asking me on a date and that’s where it all started. I was planning to go away to college the following year, but ended up going to UWGB as well, a great decision! About a year and a half into our relationship, at what I thought was just a nice dinner with my parents and sister, a ring box was brought with my dessert and he got down on one knee and asked me to be with him forever. I was so excited that initially I just nodded excitedly and said “mhmm!!” but then of course I also said yes. We got married nine months after that on May 23, 2014 just a week after his college graduation. Now I am finishing my final year of school and we are really enjoying married life and looking forward to the future.

Colleen tells us more about their wedding and how she and Dave made it uniquely theirs:

We made our wedding uniquely ours because we didn’t do everything that most couples do at weddings, we did what we wanted to do. At the ceremony, we skipped the aisle runner and the unity candle and instead went with a bright pink and blue sand ceremony. Although guests don’t prefer when there is a large gap between the ceremony and reception, we had a four hour gap because we wanted to make lots of time for pictures, something very important to me and that I will never regret.

We decided that since both of us, as well as everyone in our wedding party was young, that we would have a very fun and “young” themed wedding. I love color and knew I wanted bright colors so we went with cobalt blue and hot pink. The decorations were kept to a tasteful minimum, but what we did have was very fun and bright such as the two hot pink and blue flower balls and the fluorescent blue and pink cupcakes as centerpieces. I had my nails painted blue with white accents and wore cobalt blue flats and dangle earrings. The groomsmen wore grey because we thought it seemed younger and less formal than black and the bridesmaids wore cute strapless blue dresses with matching cobalt blue earrings. The reception hall was filled with brilliant pink and blue lighting that completely made the room.

Neither of us are big dancers, so we decided not to have a DJ at the reception, although most couples do. But we ended up loving that decision as did the guests because we and them were actually able to talk to others without loud music blaring. It was important to us to get to spend time with those close to us on our big day rather than dancing. We did have a short time of music playing in the background later in the reception and an open dance which was nice so guests could dance a little if they wanted and we did do a first dance and mother/son and father/daughter dance.

Advice from the young newlyweds:

My advice to couples who are planning a wedding would be to not let yourself get stressed! I decided early on after seeing many bride-to-be’s who seemed to only stress over and not enjoy wedding planning at all, that I was going to just let it be a fun thing and not get stressed over it. I did let myself get stressed at one point when the bridesmaid dresses came back the wrong color (but they turned out beautiful) but my mom reminded me that the important thing was my marriage, not my wedding. That at the end of the day, the wedding would be over and it would be all about the marriage. This was a great reminder and something I remembered if things weren’t working out perfectly.
