Doll house renovation

It was a crazy weekend with the Washingston street market! But such a great time.

It was a really busy sale and it was so much fun to meet all of the blog readers that came out. Many of you got to meet my handsome husband. He worked the booth for me with my niece on Friday and did an amazing job.

I had a previous speaking engagement scheduled before the market came up, and he offered to work it for me on Friday.

I was able to speak and meet an amazing group of women at Edgebrook Lutheran church in Chicago. I had a blast. They have an amazingly warm and friendly church home.I really love getting to know groups like that!

I wanted to share a new project I am going to be working on with my girls. Though really, I am going to step back and let them do most of it!

This is the doll house my Dad built for me in 1982.

I know it was 1982 because the 9 year old juvenile delinquent in me, obviously loved vandalism and I carved the date in the base with something sharp. I think it was one of those old compass thingy’s that you would get in school supplies every year, but never really used.

She’s held up well for 33.

A bit of peeling wall paper, but other than that it’s pretty sturdy.

Along time ago my brothers, who were also delinquents poked out all of the regular faux and stained glass windows. Oh how it would give them pleasure to see me cry when they poked a window out.I took my doll house very seriously. They were so rotten about it.

I got a lot of time out of that doll house,I have to admit even when I was past the playing with doll stage at about 14 or 15, I would still redecorate it and make little home decor pieces for it. I loved making art for the walls, or recovering little chairs. And back then you had to make a lot of your own stuff becuase there just wasn’t the things there are today!

I am going to restrain myself and let my girls do most of the work on it, even though I would love to dive in and just go to town.

As you can tell my the pictures they just started painting it,

they agreed they wanted a white house with a dark grey roof and light grey trim. It will be fun to see where their imagination takes them with it!
