L’Oreal Nude Magique Blur Cream: Yet Another Blur Cream?

Yes folks, I’m writing about another blur cream today. To be honest, I don’t know why I keep writing about them because they do essentially the same thing: blur out the pores and imperfections and giving your skin a velvety smooth finish. I think I’m going to stop with all these blur creams for now until there’s a ground-breaking one because again, they’re pretty much all the same.

Do you know that to date, L’Oreal has 3 blur creams? I’m quite baffled at necessity of having 3 in the brand even though they marketed for different ranges (Nude Magique, Revitalift and Skin Perfection). The results are exactly the same. Texture? Yep, they’re the same. They’re suitable for all skin types too.

It’s all in the marketing, isn’t it?

The Nude Magique Blur Cream does have a very slight leg up over the rest because this one is tinted. I was hoping for a tinted one so that I can have both slight coverage and a velvet finish on the skin at the same time without using 2 separate products. Unfortunately, it’s only a slight tint so coverage is pretty much negligible. There’s very little difference in shade between the Light to Medium and Medium to Dark. Once they’re both spread out on the skin and blended, both disappears on the skin with only the slightest of added colour. I could wear both shades without any problems and I have a strong feeling you could too regardless of your skin colour.

Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a bad product. It’s the kind of primer that is packed with silicone so you’ll expect that very smooth, velvet-like matte finish on the skin. It also gives an illusion of blurred pores as the product fills them like spackle on the wall. My foundations and BB creams apply very nicely over the primer, especially over my enlarged pores, hiding those holes on my nose and blurring the lines on my face. I’ve worn this on its own on my good skin days and it made my skin look even better even though there’s barely any coverage. This complements the Nude Magique Eau de Teint foundation very well. If you’re in the market for a good blur cream, this one works just fine.

What I find confusing is the fact that this blur cream makes the other two blur creams redundant. Marketing the blur cream under Nude Magique makes a lot of sense because it’s essentially makeup and Nude Magique is about creating that gorgeous not-100%-flawless, my-skin-but-heaps-better finish. Then you have the other two marketed under skincare. Colourless, yes, but they essentially give you the same results.

Maybe I’m overthinking this. After all, brands sell more than one type of foundation. They sell more than one type of matte powder compact. Maybe it’s all right to have 3 blur creams under the same brand but different ranges that do exactly the same thing giving you exactly the same results. So why does it bother me so when I’m perfectly fine with one brand having many foundations in different ranges that basically give me exactly the same results anyway?

Still, give us something ground-breaking! Give us something some that would blow our minds (and skin) away!

Okay, I’m getting off the podium now.

L’Oreal’s Nude Magique Blur Cream retails at AU$26.95 for 25ml and is available at all major pharmacies and supermarkets nationwide.

What I like about it: Gives my skin a velvety smooth and matte finish without looking overly matte, blurs my enlarged pores. A relatively good primer used under foundation/BB cream.

What I do not like about it: Barely any coverage, both available shades are similar to each other, another blur cream in the brand making the others in the same brand redundant.

What do you think? Have you tried the Nude Magique Blur Cream or any of the blur creams by L’Oreal? Is it necessary to have that many blur creams under one brand even though they’re marketed differently?
