Roller Derby: Week 6 – Sign offs

Edit: 26/03 – I passed everything except backwards stepping, t-stops and plow stops. As expected!

Before I start this saga, I’ll tell you now that I don’t know what bits of level one I’ve passed. All I know is that I did better than I thought I would.

It’s so scary going into a physical and practical test like this. I haven’t done that since my driving tests (all five of them, I hated them all). I don’t work well under this kind of pressure.

If I do something I want to be the best. I don’t like being worse than anyone and I don’t like people telling me I can’t do something.

I hate competition for this reason. But this isn’t a competition (yet). I need to get over this.

I knew I’d struggle with plow stops and steps. I’m hoping new skates will fix that problem. I struggled with right foot glides last week but with a bit of truck tightening and some advice from more experienced skaters, I nailed it. (Hopefully.)

Even if it isn’t sign-off-worthy, it’s something I’ve improved on from last week.

More sign offs next Monday so will try and get some proper practice in between now and then. Progress has been made. I also have a headache from a slightly jarring knee fall. Time for bed.
