an afternoon at city bakery

Come one, come all.

City Bakery (located on 18th street b/w 5th and 6th aves) has been known for hot chocolate for some time apparently, and I was completely out of the loop until Tineey emailed me an image of their Hot Chocolate Festival calendar. A gigantic homemade marshmallow (was there even such thing?) hot-tubbing in a melted pool of chocolate on a cold, rainy day sounded comparable to heaven.

Oh, hello there, pretzel croissant. Yes, the salty, endlessly chewable goodness of a pretzel covered in the flaky, buttery shell of a croissant.

That gigantic marshmallow is homemade, and before this trip I didn’t even know that was possible. What is it, organic? who knows… Give it a few minutes, don’t forget to grab a spoon and it starts tumbling like a melting glacier. Pretty soon you’ve got chocolate soup and there’s no point in pretending that you’ll be able to drink it. Spoon and sip, young grasshopper. That’s the only way you’re getting this in your system.

Oh, and p.s. – here’s the official schedule for the Hot Chocolate Festival at City Bakery. You’ve got a few days left.
