MEN - From Day to Night: Is Your Wardrobe Interchangeable?

J.Crew - Spring 2014
Having to get up every morning and decide what you are going to wear can be a hassle. And for most of us, we do not have to put on a straight laced suit every day without variation or thought. Most of us decide what looks business- casual, without crossing that thin line that boarders casual.
A suggestion that may ease many morning headaches that I find suitable on a day-to-day basis, is make your wardrobe as interchangeable as you can. By making the versatility of your closet fit the perception of casual, while fitting dress code guidelines, you can make your mornings that much less of a headache.
During my 9:00-5:00 job, I can be found in a button down shirt and a pair of casual tailored pants, both preferably from J.Crew, followed by the shirt, shoes, watch, and tie depending on my mood. By night, you could potentially find me in that same dress shirt, maybe not on the same night of the day I wore it, but you get the point. Having this type of versatility with my wardrobe allows me to feel just as comfortable in what I wear to work as I would out of work. Even more so, it makes going to work seem not so bad. Of course, this idea of a "interchangeable wardrobe" would only suit those men who have this type of dress code freedom at work. In any case, I am a college student and an intern. I find that it is both financially and socially easiest to interchange my wardrobe. My friends don't see me in the outfits I wear at work, and vice versa. And my wallet appreciates the extra cash.
Here is an example of an outfit that could fit into an "interchangeable wardrobe".

J.Crew - Ludlow spread-collar shirt in deep forest gingham - $88.00

J.Crew - Vintage chord in ink straight fit - $75.00

J.Crew - Vintage oxford shirt in navy gingham - $75.00

J.Crew - Essential chino in navy urban slim fit - $69.50
Don't get me wrong, I like being on my A game when it comes to dressing nice, and my closet does not lack what so ever, but being smart about how to wear clothes is one step towards a more stress free morning.
